Stress Awareness Day
The Iceberg analogy is often used in relation to general health and in relation to stress - because what we see on the surface only tells part of the story. Like an iceberg, most of what really matters lies underneath.
Stress, sleep, lifestyle, recovery patterns, nervous system health and emotional wellbeing all influence how we feel and function day to day. When stress builds up, it can affect the body in different ways which aren't always obvious.
Whilst most of us might recognise that anxiety and worry, mood changes, increased heart rate and altered sleep patterns are a sign we are under more stress, many do not associate things like fatigue and dizziness, pain, skin and hair changes, digestive issues and weight change as a warning sign. In fact, these symptoms are often put down to other things, and can create further worry that something more serious is going on.
To create lasting health and resilience, we need to focus less on short-term fixes and look at longer-term solutions that not only treat what's visible, but also address what lies beneath the surface.
