Next Step Independence Ltd

Next Step Independence Ltd We provide them with a safe, stable place to live.

Next Step Independence supports children & young people aged 8-18 based in the South West of England who for whatever reason are unable to live at home with their families. The children and young people we support have often experienced high levels of trauma, neglect, and crisis in their young lives, resulting in them experiencing complex challenges. This can lead to multiple placements moves and

instability, leaving them feeling unsettled, scared and often unwanted. We believe that through the support of resilient, professional team members and in the right environment, every child and young person can thrive and reach their full potential.

April is Stress Awareness Month

Looking after our mental health and supporting one another - is central to who we are.

This month is a timely reminder to pause, reflect, and make space for conversations about stress and wellbeing, both at work and at home. Small steps and simple tools can make a real difference.

Thinking about a move from Adult Services into Children’s Care?

If you’re currently working in adult social care, supported living, mental health, learning disabilities, or domiciliary care, your skills are highly transferable — and could make a life‑changing difference to young people.

We’re opening new 2‑bed children’s homes near Chippenham in Wiltshire and are recruiting support workers to help build small, supportive teams from the ground up.

Working in a smaller home means:

✅Stronger relationships with the young people you support
✅More consistency and stability
✅Time to really understand each child’s needs, experiences, and strengths

You don’t need previous experience in children’s residential care.

If you have experience supporting adults with complex needs, trauma, or mental health challenges, we’ll provide full training and support to help you transition — and you’ll never be expected to get it right on your own.

At NSI, we believe that safe, trusting relationships change lives, and we give our teams the time, training, and support to work in a truly child‑centred way.

Flexible shift patterns available, ongoing training provided, and real career progression opportunities as our new homes grow.

Over the Easter weekend, one of our young people got stuck in — painting fences, clearing overgrown shrubs and helping to get the garden ready for summer.

After all that hard work, it was time to slow things down with a more relaxing day out, exploring the Quantocks and enjoying some well‑earned fresh air and views.
Everyday moments like these play a big part in building confidence, independence and pride.

As we head into the Easter break, we want to take a moment to thank our incredible team and the amazing providers we work with. Your support, care, commitment and compassion make a life‑changing difference for the children and young people we support every single day.

Whether you’re working, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying a well‑earned rest – thank you for everything you do.

Home Sweet Home...

While our 'soon to open' homes near Chippenham and Devizes are being decorated and furnished, we’re building the teams who will help turn them into true NSI homes – where someone is always there to listen and care.

We’re interested in hearing from people with experience of working with children, or those who bring transferable skills from similar care or support environments. The children and young people who will live in our homes have complex needs and benefit from calm, consistent adults who can offer reassurance, structure and care.

This role is about being there in the everyday moments – creating safe, welcoming homes where children and young people feel happy, listened to and understood.

If you’re looking for meaningful work and want to be part of something from the very beginning.

Growing more than just vegetables...

Across our homes, spring has brought lots of learning and some really proud moments.

Sweetcorn and sweet peas are growing well in some of our gardens and, for many of the young people we support, this will be the first time they’ve grown food from seed, cooked it and enjoyed eating it.

We’re also seeing our young people take real pride in their gardens – caring for the plants, mowing the lawn and looking after the space around them.

These everyday moments help build confidence, life skills and a sense of ownership, turning gardens into places where our children and young people can learn and feel proud of their achievements.

A small “thank you” can make a big difference.

At NSI, appreciation is part of our culture.
