Christmas Eve Breakfast at Roden Hall Care Home

On Christmas Eve, we came together in the café to celebrate with a festive breakfast. Residents, families and staff enjoyed a delicious continental-style spread, including pastries, fruits, meats and cheeses, alongside some traditional breakfast favourites — all beautifully prepared by our wonderful kitchen team.

Festive table decorations set the scene, but what truly made the morning extra special was the Buck’s Fizz enjoyed afterwards. We all agreed that a proper Christmas breakfast simply wouldn’t be complete without it — and it certainly went down a treat!

Festive Fun at Roden Hall Care Home

Our ladies enjoyed a wonderfully festive spiced shortbread decorating session. Tree-shaped biscuits were transformed with colourful icing, making them look beautifully Christmassy — and yes, we had plenty of laughs and a little bit of mess along the way!

The ladies said it was lovely to be a bit silly and that the activity brought back fond memories of preparing for Christmas with their children. And of course, eating the biscuits was just as enjoyable as decorating them!

Christmas Party at Roden Hall

We had a fantastic Christmas party at Roden Hall, bringing residents together with friends and family to celebrate the festive season. Paul Watkins entertained everyone with brilliant Christmas music and sing-along favourites, with a special highlight being Karen and Paul’s duet of Fairytale of New York — a real crowd-pleaser!

The room looked wonderful with festive decorations, a balloon arch entrance, Christmas jumpers and Julie’s elf outfit stealing the show. Guests enjoyed festive nibbles and favourite tipples, with Snowball cocktails proving very popular!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Paul and John “the piano man” for helping make it such a memorable celebration.

A Magical Afternoon at Roden Hall

This week, we were delighted to welcome back the Northeast Producers Ltd for a wonderful performance of Alice in Wonderland. Residents settled into their seats with a mince pie in hand as the lights dimmed and the show began.

The actresses did a fantastic job entertaining and engaging everyone — eyes were glued to the stage, with plenty of nodding along and singing to the music. A special moment saw our lovely Jean officially crowned Queen of Hearts, a title she was very happy to accept, saying she always knew she’d be queen one day!

The afternoon ended on a high note with Ron especially enjoying singing along to the carols at the end. A truly magical and memorable performance for all.

A Very Special Gift at Roden Hall

Our dear friend Judith, who has been part of the Roden Hall family for many years, has gifted us this beautiful hand-knitted nativity set, crafted with great care and love. We’re delighted that it now has a stable to call home, completing this truly special display.

Residents and visitors alike have been admiring the nativity, commenting on how wonderful it is to have such a meaningful, homemade gift. Each piece is a heartfelt dedication to Judith’s late parents, who once lived with us here at Roden.

Thank you to Judith and her family for their continued support and for a gift we will treasure for many years to come.

Christmas Bingo Fun at Roden Hall

Residents enjoyed a festive game of Christmas Bingo in the Bar, complete with seasonal prizes and plenty of laughs. Each resident had a special card featuring an Elf name — which had to be shouted out for a full house!

Congratulations to Pat and Pam for winning the first line prizes, Peter for winning two lines and a full house, and Val for taking home the house prize.

With silly names being called out, Christmas puddings to spot on the cards, and a few snowball cocktails enjoyed along the way, it was a wonderfully fun and festive afternoon

Festive Fun at Roden Hall

Last night, residents gathered in the Golden Oak Pub for our annual Festive Cheese & Wine Evening, enjoying a wonderful selection of cheeses prepared by our fantastic kitchen team, paired with wines and festive cocktails — including our cinnamon-rimmed eggnog.

John soon forgave the missing Shropshire Blue after tasting the Danish Blue, and mince pies provided the perfect sweet finish. With lots of laughter and great company, it was a lovely evening to get everyone into the Christmas spirit

Fundraising Success at Roden Hall!

Residents gathered in the café to celebrate a fantastic year of fundraising in support of our 2025 charity partner, Cuan Wildlife Rescue. Through fayres, sponsored walks, coffee mornings, crafts, bake sales, and raffles, an incredible £1,108.17 was raised!

Each event helped to spread awareness of wildlife and support the amazing work the charity does to protect and care for animals in need. A special thank you to Tina, who has been closely involved throughout the year, helping and supporting our residents with their fundraising efforts.

Tina shared that the funds raised will go towards creating a better swan pool, helping the swans recover before they are released back into the wild.

What a wonderful year of community spirit, teamwork, and giving back — well done to everyone involved!

National Gingerbread House Day at Roden Hall!

In honour of National Gingerbread House Day, we held our annual gingerbread house competition! Residents teamed up to create the most festive and creative houses for our Gingerbread Village, which will be on display in reception for all our visitors to enjoy throughout the Christmas season.

The winners of the first session were Mia’s Team — Pam, Olive, and Ann — for their colourful, traditional design. The second session winners were Karen’s Team — Julia and Sylvia — who wowed us with their detailed icing decorations!

A wonderful day of friendly competition, festive fun, and keeping Roden Hall traditions alive, creating memories that will last.

Festive Fun with Kiddley Divey!

This week we enjoyed a wonderfully festive Kiddleydivey Shropshire, Mid Wales & Wolverhampton - Adults session with Eve — and our residents were thrilled to see her again after a little while!

Everyone joined in the spirit by wearing Christmas hats, headbands, or, as Eve calls them… “dillyboppers!”

Residents and staff participated in a variety of activities, including dancing to cheerful Christmas music, twirling with tinsel, and playing tambourines. The highlight of the session was definitely The 12 Days of Christmas — each resident held up a sign with one of the gifts and lifted it at just the right moment in the song. They all did brilliantly, remembering their part and keeping time!

A big thank you to Eve for getting us all moving, laughing, and singing our way into the festive season. ❤️🎄

A Festive Afternoon at the Cinema Room!

This week, we had the pleasure of watching a pre-recorded performance of A Christmas Carol, kindly shared with us by the Old Vic. Residents filled our cinema room, creating a warm and cosy festive atmosphere as everyone settled in for the show.

With mince pies, fizzy pop, and plenty of classic cinema pick ’n’ mix, our residents were completely engrossed in the performance. In fact, they enjoyed it so much that they even asked to skip the 10-minute interval so they could keep watching!

Christmas Jumper Day at Roden Hall!

Today, the team at Roden Hall got into the festive spirit for Christmas Jumper Day! Staff were decked out in jumpers, Christmas socks, glitter, festive colours, and even special earrings — bringing smiles to residents and visitors alike.

Residents loved seeing all the fun outfits, and it was a wonderful way for the team to come together and share some laughter. A special shout-out goes to Chef Jack for his brilliant Wallace & Gromit jumper — definitely a highlight of the day!

The home was filled with Christmas excitement and festive cheer all around.
