Creativity is blooming at Roden Hall

Our residents have recently taken on a beautiful new art project, which we’re delighted to be showcasing at our upcoming Celebration of Spring event. The project combines photography with recreated artwork and reflects each resident’s favourite things about life here at Roden Hall – a chance to pause, reflect, and admire the beauty that surrounds them every day.

Some residents have captured stunning details they’ve discovered around the home, while others have photographed meaningful spaces or reflected on special memories and experiences. Pam and John have already completed two wonderful paintings, Elaine has just begun her first piece, and Nan has created a touching collage filled with her favourite moments.

It’s been a joy to see everyone enjoying the process of capturing the beauty in their lives, and we’re hoping to give even more residents the opportunity to get involved. The final creations will be proudly displayed at our event on the 16th April for all to see.

Celebrating Pancake Day at Roden Hall Care Home

Our residents gathered in the Berrington's Café to enjoy freshly cooked pancakes with a delicious array of toppings to choose from. With a warm drink in hand, everyone cheered as Jack achieved a perfect flip on the very first pancake!

From classic lemon and sugar to candied walnuts, chocolate and fruit — and even crispy streaky bacon for those who preferred a savoury option — there was something for everyone. Many residents enjoyed a pancake (or four!), trying different flavours or sticking with their favourite.

A wonderful way for residents and staff to come together, share a few laughs, and enjoy a much-loved tradition — and yes, it was definitely worth the clean-up afterwards!

Valentine’s weekend at Roden Hall 💕

Love was in the air as we enjoyed a beautiful Valentine’s afternoon tea, complete with sweet treats, pink fizz, and a lounge filled with hearts and roses.

We were delighted to be entertained by our amazing pianist, John Ellis, whose romantic tunes brought back lovely memories — with residents singing along (and even Millie the Cocker Spaniel joining in ).

Celebrating choice and personal favourites at Roden Hall.

We’re proud to offer delicious, home-cooked meals every day at Roden Hall, carefully prepared by our talented kitchen team. But great dining is also about listening, choice, and honouring personal favourites.

When resident Jean shared that her favourite food was a cheeseburger and chips — with a firm declaration that Big Macs are the best burger in the world! — we knew exactly what to do.

The next day, Jean enjoyed a special lunch date with Karen from our Lifestyle team, complete with a McDonald's takeaway and a strawberry milkshake.

Jean described the meal as “marvellous” and enjoyed every last bite.

It’s moments like these that show person-centred care in action — where individual preferences matter just as much as fabulous food.

This week, our chef Jack treated everyone at Roden Hall to a delicious surprise before teatime.

A beautifully prepared snack platter was filled with macarons, chocolate strawberries, fresh fruit, popcorn, and a selection of jellies and pick ’n’ mix sweets. We took the trolley around to each room, and the surprise brought smiles all round!

Ann was especially delighted to enjoy her absolute favourite — chocolate. It was a lovely afternoon spent chatting, sharing treats, and enjoying these simple but special moments together.

Last month, we were delighted to introduce Dot, our lovely friend and talented knitting expert.

After taking away a box of knitted squares made by our residents, Dot returned this month with a box full of beautiful creations. Using the squares, she has lovingly made blankets, scarves, and even a knitted lavender bag!

Dot has done a truly wonderful job, and we are so grateful to her for taking the time, care, and creativity to turn our knitting into such special items. Thank you, Dot – your kindness means so much to us all.

✨ Reminder: Our Knit & Natter sessions take place on the first Wednesday of every month from 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join us for a friendly afternoon of knitting, conversation, and community.

National Pizza Day at Roden Hall

We celebrated National Pizza Day with a selection of Domino's Pizza's, all chosen by our residents. Nan enjoyed her very own gluten-free pizza, while June, who had never tried pizza before, loved it so much she went back for seconds — and even suggested we make it a weekly event!

Last year’s favourite was the Cheeseburger pizza, but this year the Full House, packed with meats and veggies, took the top spot. Tony, who proudly tells us he’s a bit of a whizz in the kitchen, made it his mission to try a slice of each pizza so he could give them all a proper verdict!

A brilliant afternoon full of good food and laughter.

When Paul Watkins starts playing, it’s impossible not to get involved — and Jean does just that. Here she is singing along with real enthusiasm to her all-time favourite, Flash, Bang, Wallop from Half a Sixpence by *Tommy Steele.

Roden Hall favourite Paul Watkins was back — and the room was buzzing!

Everyone was singing along to their favourite tunes, especially Jean, who always has a ball when Paul is in town. Jean’s all-time favourite artist is Tommy Steele, and she loved singing along to Flash, Bang, Wallop from the musical Half a Sixpence.

Paul also had everyone joining in with his rendition of American Pie. He wasn’t sure if our residents would know all the words — but of course they did, singing along from start to finish!

Brian joined us with his wife Liz, and Ann’s daughter Helen enjoyed spending time together. We also welcomed a few newcomers this time — Linda, the two Johns, and Derek — all of whom had a lovely afternoon.

Thank you, Paul. You always get the room buzzing when you visit, and we’re already looking forward to the next time.

Recently we enjoyed a lovely morning visit to Roden Garden Centre - Roden Nurseries, stopping by the Potting Shed Café .

As we’re just down the road, we were able to shuttle back and forth and take a big group of residents along. Everyone wrapped up in their cosiest jackets as the café was a little chilly — Nan even borrowed Mia’s jacket for extra warmth! Thankfully, a hot cup of coffee and a huge slice of cake soon warmed everyone up.

Christine enjoyed her favourite coffee and walnut cake, while Linda opted for a savoury treat with a crusty ham and cheese roll. There were smiles all around and plenty of compliments for the café.

We’ve already decided we’ll be back when the sun is shining so we can sit and enjoy the garden area.
