Did you know horses teeth continually grow until they are around 25yrs old? 🦷

So they have to have the dentist every 6-12 months just like you and me!

We like to have the ponies checked every 6months so they have an MOT, yearly vaccinations and vet check too.

This way we can catch any issues before it impacts their wellbeing. If we want them to help us and help you and your children then we have to keep them fit and well.

All checks have now been completed for this season and they all have a clean bill of health and nice healthy teeth! 😬

Oreo was a very brave girl as her teeth had not been done in a while but she’s all good now 🏅

This Wednesdays Well-being Post I thought I’d bring up the worrying news around the world right now 🌍

It’s concerning for all of us
But for some the anxiety will impact their mental health- please take extra time to be kind 💖

At times like this it’s easy to get sucked into all the negative news. But it’s also worth reminding yourself of all the good things around you.

We have little control over the conflicts happening. But we can limit the time we spend scrolling through the reports.

It is worth remembering that lots of our young people will be seeing and hearing things too. So these visuals from UNICEF are useful information.

Try to focus on what you can control. In mental health coaching we have circles of control.

In the centre you right down what you can control- like your thoughts, actions and the way you treat others. On the outside you have what you cannot control. This simple exercise can help to put things in perspective and help you to focus on the positive ways you can deal with a situation

For all those who are struggling please do not alone. We are here to support you. Especially if it’s concerning your children’s anxiety.

If you have loved ones in countries caught up in the conflict we are thinking of you and hope they keep safe 🤗

How many of you are feeling better for a little sunshine ☀️

It does help to lift the spirits

Perhaps you can all take a moment to find a glimmer around you….

A daffodil 🌼 starting to bloom
The leaves budding on the trees 🍃
The birds singing in the sunshine

What have you noticed this weekend?

My highlight was getting the beds washed and dried on the line! They smell so much nicer!!!! It’s the little things 💖

I have been trying to collect as much information and knowledge as I can to help you all understand this lengthy document.

You may have already heard others concerns and be feeling worried about what this means for your children

So I’m going to try and give you a summary

1. This is a consultation document and not legal or agreed code of practice- YET

2. You have the right to give your views and I encourage you to do so

3. There is a simple version for you too, I’ll try and add the link in the comments

4. Nothing changes right now. This comes into effect from Sept 2030. So if you have a specialist placement and EHCP in place that still stands now.

5. I will be writing with my views as a professional supporting young people and parents and as someone who worked in education for 20yrs.

6. I am keen to hear your voices. So would you like that to be in a form? Comment FORM below. Or via Zoom, comment Zoom. Or by email??? Let me know as your voices are important

7. My initial thoughts on this white paper is it is all very ‘fluffy’

It gives the impression and uses words to get you onboard. However many parents and professionals are questioning the details.
They are quite lacking!
As are the definitions of ‘complex’ cases.

There might well be the right intention behind it but ultimately I fear it will be driven by cost cutting measures.

Yes we all want early intervention and more localised services and support with better collaboration. That can only have positive impact.

However, there is a lack of clarity.
It reads that EHCPs will only exist for complex cases. But who is making that definition and decision?

There will be a Tier based system of need and the child will be placed in one of them. Preferably in mainstream setting. With the creation of SEN hubs. Under school trust systems. Now many schools are already in trusts, academies and MATs. Many have SEN hubs. So if that is going to work, why isn’t it?

Yes it needs more funding and the government are singing of huge funding input. But once you spread that over the 3yrs across 22,000 schools it’s not actually that much.

How will it be coordinated and split?
Some schools already do this well already, but yes they would love more funding to give better training and support, more resources and child led intervention. However, some are severely lacking.

Plus Mainstream schools do not suit every child and their way of learning. Full stop. No matter how much you throw at it o label it ‘inclusive’

I think they need to hear the children’s view of inclusion and what they need. Not create more boxes they have to fit into. That’s what has broken the system already and not just for SEN

My other concern is the complete lack of mention of EOTAS and home education system. Where does that lie ???

There is clear intention of more staff training. But teachers are already under enough stress and workload. Yes we need more SENCOs as having one between schools is not enough. The complete lack of recognition of TAs who are the backbone of SEN support needs addressing.

So these are my initial thoughts and concerns. If you want to discuss this further then please let me know. No-one actually has the answers right now. But many professionals are challenging it. Legal professionals are taking action. So no doubt this document will change.

At the moment the focus is that initial funding will go into training staff and creating the hubs in mainstream settings- Sept 2026-2028

Then the tiered system of packages will come into place. With only the complex cases having a specialist placement

By 2030 the EHCP system will be replaced with ISP- by schools, which I believe is already in place as many schools already have IEP for children who need support.

For now. Nothing should change. But you have your voice and that of your child. If you want to know more or wish for me to include your views in my response. Let me know.

Our hard work pays off 🥰

We have our Licence for another 3yrs from WRS- this is a stringent standards inspection to make sure our animal welfare comes first and the correct policies and procedures are in place.

Expectations are high. As they should be.
Checks are complete.
Site and horses inspected

It’s tough especially with all the rain we have had and this time of year does not always lend itself to the site looking its best

But we did it 🏆

As those of you who attend regularly know, we have high expectations of ourselves and want Caspian Wood to be the best it can be.

Now to get on with the next hurdle!!!!
Willows Wish CIC is ready to bloom 🌷

Thankyou as always for your support and encouragement. 😍
