The Queen is in her throne šŸ‘‘

Ronnie has been enjoying the sun over the last few days and today we had some promising news from the vets.

After a consultation with a specialist, they’re happy that Ronnie is showing no signs of being in pain and they’re comfortable with treating her without surgery, for now.

There’s still a spinal injury to overcome and there’s other conditions she’s living with, but for now, this old girl is fighting through all and any barrier in her way, and she’s fighting well.

What is traumatic intelligence?

Trauma can shape how we think, feel, and behave—especially in how we read others and build connections.

Traumatic intelligence is the heightened awareness some people develop as a response to feeling unsafe, allowing them to read environments, predict behaviour, and protect themselves.

Understanding our surroundings and knowing our boundaries can help us feel safe, but for some this awareness comes from survival, not choice.

The more we learn about ourselves and others, the better we can understand these responses and begin to feel safer beyond them.

TW;

A CNN investigation has uncovered a horrific online network labelled a ā€˜rape academy,’ where men share explicit tips on drugging and sexually assaulting women—often wives or partners—without getting caught.

I honestly don’t know what to say but it is important we don’t stay silent.

We need to stop minimising dangerous rhetorics as banter, or lads being lads, boys being boys, and something that’s just a joke. We need to show boys how important women are in the world, and how much we can learn from them.

We need to stand alongside women, advocate for their voices to be heard and valued, and we have to be less fragile and more strong in our allyship.

We need to be better, act better, and do better.

We need to fix up and speak up. Silence is complicity.

In my years of working with children, boys have always been the ones more likely to carry or use weapons. Studies confirm this to be true in a wider context too.

Whether it is stabbing your friends with a pencil in primary school, or carrying a knife in the community when a little bit older, weaponising every day objects isn’t new, yet we still don’t have the correct answers to combat it.

Systemically children are being failed and let down, with a lot of interventions either coming too late or not at all.

We have to do more to protect our children, and boys especially need to be protected from toxic expectations and negative stereotypes. Do more to be more.

Ronnie isn’t that well at the moment and the news from the vets isn’t great.

In all the time I’ve had with Ronnie, it feels like there’s been a vets appointment every week. Arthritis, sepsis, cancer, a tooth abscess, and now a significant spinal injury. It’s been a lot.

She’s a warrior though - still with her tail wagging and her eyes lit up with mischief. A man’s best friend innit šŸ¾šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If you are worried about a child or have questions, reach out and talk. There are people out there to help.

Being concerned and curious does not mean you’re being nosy.

Life with ADHD can be tough to articulate. There are many words you could use, but in some ways, no words really do it justice.

Seconds can feel like minutes — minutes can feel like seconds. Hours can feel like days; days can feel like a battle.

Some days, it feels as though you have to reach burnout just to get some sleep.

Slow days this week with Ronnie not being too well and no solid work to occupy my time.

Slowing down and allowing yourself a chance to rest doesn’t have to be a fight—you are allowed to stop a little sometimes.

It ain’t easy and it can be boring, but, enjoy the days with nothing in them. Sometimes nothing is everything.

Big up for his YouTube series, šŸ“

Each episode sees Fekky visit a different farm to learn new skills he can take back with him to his own farm, F Manor. We see him learn about chickens, sheep, cows, bees, and so much more.

There’s a lot of conversations about the farming culture and the struggles experienced by people and their families just trying to make a living too. It isn’t just the financial challenges, but also the mental strain. Early mornings, long days, repetition, all for very little reward. Fekky does brilliantly to document this in a very personable way, making you feel a part of that journey.

As a youth worker, I’ll definitely be recommending this to the children I support, sharing it as a reminder there are different ways to manage anxiety and trauma.

I managed to watch all episodes and get up to date, so I’m ready for the next episode. Let’s go !!!

Over the last few weeks I have spent some time with the residents and staff at Wellford Gardens Care Home in Wheatley. It’s been great.

We spend so much time ignoring ourselves, chasing money, success, and whatever we perceive as perfect, that sometimes we forget what is equally as important- connection.

It’s been nice slowing down a little, hearing stories and connecting with people that I wouldn’t usually connect with.

The people I’ve met have been fantastic and the staff are an example of true altruism, kindness, and what it means to give people your time.

If you’re bored, looking for something new and want to give back somewhere, go and volunteer in spaces like care homes, food banks, litter picking, homeless shelters, sports clubs, etc etc etc etc - you get the point. Go and help others where you can.

I look forward to my next visit.
