What is a verruca?

A verruca is a viral infection of the skin. They get in through micro-tears - a tear in the skin so tiny you can't see it without a microscope! Most people have the virus living harmlessly on our skin.
The virus infects the top layer of skin, called the epidermis, and disrupts the fine lines of the skin called striations, or striae. This can cause them to become prominent, and for painful callus to build up over the top of them.

A quick before and after of a tidy up of some overlooked nails, with a chronic fungal infection going on to the skin, which is starting to spread to the nails.
A long session of tidying the feet, followed by some good self-management and footwear advice, and we'll see how things get on!

What a corker of an ingrowing townail! Some hefty nail spikes on both sides, this can be horribly painful and make walking - and even lying in bed at night due to bedsheets - very painful.

Can't believe i forgot to share this! We had our staff Christmas party (yes, we do it in January to brighten our spirits after the festive period) last weekend! It was a great time, throwing axes! Can't wait to see what we do next year, absolutely love this team ###

After well over a decade of regularly performing nail surgery, and hundreds (if not thousands) of procedures done, i still genuinely enjoy this aspect of my work. It is the removal of an ingrown nail, preventing the nail from ingrowing again. It takes a few weeks to heal, but often feels like an instant relief from a painful toe! And, at ProPodiatry, I'm proud to say that our aftercare is second to none.

Save a&e for life threatening emergencies, we are here for the ingrowing toenails!

NHS England reported 3,890 ingrown toenails presented at A&E last winter. Podiatrists are the experts in foot and lower limb care and can provide specialist care for ingrown nails, including minor surgery to resolve them. Check with your local NHS for podiatry access criteria or find your nearest private podiatrist at https://rcpod.org.uk/find-a-podiatrist and save A&E for the critical care.
