What is Transgender Awareness Week?

Transgender Awareness Week is a week when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the trans community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community.

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we will remember them.

The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11am on 11 November 1918.

Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms.

To this day we mark Armistice Day around the United Kingdom with a Two Minute Silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month.

We are proud to be an accredited Veteran Friendly GP Practice, recognising the unique health needs of those who have served in the Armed Forces. Our team is committed to providing personalised, compassionate support for veterans and their families, ensuring they can access the care, understanding, and continuity they deserve.

Our GP Partner, Dr Dan Faller, is the practice’s Lead GP for Veteran Support, overseeing our veteran-focused initiatives and ensuring the highest standard of care for those who have served. As part of this commitment, Dr Faller took part in the Thame Remembrance Service on Sunday 9th November, representing the practice as we honoured those who have served and those who continue to serve.

If you are a veteran, or care for someone who is, please let our reception team know so we can ensure your health records reflect your service history and help you access tailored support.

Every year, bullying impacts the lives of countless young people and silence helps it grow.

That’s why, this Anti-Bullying Week, we’re empowering young people to use their Power for Good to safely speak up and raise awareness when they see bullying, face to face or online.

Lasting change needs all of us. From playgrounds to parliament, our homes to our phones — we all have a part to play.

Together, we can use our Power for Good to end bullying — for good.

Today is Social Media Kindness Day

Social media is increasingly playing a large part in our daily lives. We're the first generation of social media users - essentially we're guinea pigs! We need to make it a kinder place as opposed for it to be somewhere anger and hate breeds. Every time we use social media, we leave an imprint. Social Media Kindness Day is encouraging for all those imprints to be kind!

Most people would never make the nasty remarks they do on social media to a person's face. This is because they would be able to see the hurt and upset caused by those words. On social media, the ability to see that reaction is taken away. You never know how someone would react to the nasty messages they receive on social media.

It is for this reason that Social Media Kindness Day was created. It is also in memory of the late TV presenter Caroline Flack, being held on what would have been her birthday - 9th November. It is through her message of being kind that this day is connected to her. We are wanting it to be a movement, not just for a day but for generations to come - where unkindness isn't tolerated. Social media should be a place where people can socialise, network, do business and live 'their best life' without fear of negativity.

Carers Oxfordshire supports unpaid carers in Oxfordshire

We are a free service offering information, advice, and personalised support to unpaid adult carers—those aged 18 or over who look after someone living in Oxfordshire.

If you care for an adult, a child, or both, and they rely on you to manage everyday tasks, support is available for you.

We’ll work with you to understand your needs and help you make informed choices about how and when you’re supported. Your health and wellbeing matter, and we’re here to make caring easier.

Please note: this service is for unpaid carers only. We’re unable to support paid care workers or volunteers.

If you are 18 or older and another adult, child or both, relies on you for help to do everyday things, support is available for you.

Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, but it is the leading cause of cancer-related death, responsible for more than 1 in 5 cancer deaths. According to Cancer Research UK, around 48,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer every year in the UK, and it accounts for over 35,000 deaths annually. Raising awareness is crucial in encouraging people to understand the symptoms, reduce the risks, and seek medical advice when needed. Lung cancer often presents with symptoms that are similar to other conditions, meaning it is frequently diagnosed at later stages, when treatment options may be more limited.

Workers need to be aware that certain work activities, such as exposure to asbestos, mild steel welding fume and heavy and prolonged exposure to silica, can cause lung cancer and other serious respiratory diseases.
