Sorry to say this but we can’t rely on intellect to “think” our way out of intrusive thoughts and over thinking (though many of us try!)

As someone whose brain whirrs at a 100 miles an hour I used to drive myself CRAZY with thoughts, opinions, rumination’s stuck on a loop. And the more I tried to slow the thoughts, the more I’d have.

If this sounds familiar then please know there is another way. Meditation. Stay with me.. don’t run a mile please!

Meditation need not be scary and it certainly doesn’t need to be formal, or lengthy. It can simply be described as working with the nature of the mind, instead of fighting against it.

Just like with exercise for example we aren’t all into weights or running, some may like cycling or yoga.. Meditation is the same - we just need to find the right way for us.

Vipassana/Open Monitoring practices (sometimes referred to as “mindfulness” meditations) involves observing physical sensations in the body, your current thought patterns, present energies, the breath - without judgement or wanting to change things - just acceptance and openness as to how things are right now.

Concentrated/focused awareness meditations gently steer the mind towards a single point of focus, perhaps a candle, an image, the breath, a sound, a mantra, therefore away from the busy mind (and the past or the future).

Transcendental meditations are, for me, a little controversial.. In TM an individual is said to be given a personalised (“special”) mantra that is then repeated silently until the mantra drops away and then the mind becomes clear, focused and restful (with some experiencing transcendence to another realm)- all of which I am here for. I have practiced mantra meditations and they can be very beneficial and great for soothing over active minds. What doesn’t work for me is the “hierarchical” nature of TM and the assertion that you can only reach these levels by spending a LOT of money on a personalised mantra. There are many, powerful, spiritual mantras and chants which have been shared for centuries from different lineages available for us all to absorb and experience.

I would love to hear your views and experiences with meditation. 👇

Yoga. But always so much more.

Feedback from my last retreat evening..

“I was so relaxed during the self massage.. it eased me into the asana part so gently.

By the time I laid down for the Nidra I was so comfortable in my body I sunk into my mat and was super relaxed.

My pain was eased & I had not felt so relaxed in my body for so long.

The whole evening felt like a nervous system reset after being in hyper vigilance for so long.

When I got home I was laying so much more comfortably and relaxed going to sleep.

The gift was so thoughtful, thank you”

You can now book to join me for my next retreat evening “Friday Night Yin-ner” See photos or previous post for details and book via www.yogawithtracey.co.uk or follow the link in my bio.

You are invited to… Friday Night Yin-ner

This Autumn’s retreat is an exclusive Yin event, and as always, you will be in for a treat.

I am really hoping you’ll be able to join me for a special evening of:

A full Yin Yoga sequence inspired by the Autumn – focusing particularly on the Metal Element which, in Traditional Chinese Medicine relates to the Lung & Large Intestine Meridians, and the season of inward reflection, peaceful presence and letting go of what is no longer needed.

Following our Yin practice you will then sink back and be held in a grounding, guided relaxation, Designed to ease the transition into colder, darker months, supporting your physical and emotional well-being.

Dinner will be lovingly prepared by Meg of A Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist – well known and loved on the yoga retreat circuit! The menu will be vegan, gluten free and delicious!

I am hosting this retreat again in Thetford as I love the warm and cosy feel of the venue, which lends itself well to our candlelit practice as well as having great facilities for us to enjoy a freshly cooked meal together.

So..
Friday Night Yin-ner will be on
24th October 6-8:30pm
The Hub, Thetford
£45 including food & refreshments

You can secure your place now via the link in my bio.

Are you curious to try my yoga classes but not sure what to expect?

Each weekly class consists of a self-check in and breath session at the start (pranayama and meditation but please don’t be put off by these words!)

You will then be invited to move your body through a planned sequence of movement and stillness (asana). This is based on a theme (such as backs, hips, balances) or from a theme of yoga philosophy or following the merdian system tradition (in our Yin classes) or probably a combination of the above. We conclude with a relaxation segment (savasana or another resting position) where the body settles and soaks up all of the nutrients of the class and your own personal experience.

Whatever your reason for wanting to try yoga.. if you are recovering from injury, have a sore back or shoulders, whether you are stressed, exhausted, or just looking for a way to increase strength and flexibility of body and mind I find that when you need yoga the most - it is there for you, ready to support you just as you are - as am I.

My classes are fully inclusive and are attended by men and women from all backgrounds, ages, sizes and fitness levels, all very different but the same - human beings living a human experience.

My teaching style is down to earth and relaxed and you will be very welcomed. There will be no hands-on assists, or calling out of right/wrong.. and never any pressure to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

Modifications, options are offered including encouragement to pause or sit something out if that’s what feels right for you.

I’m trained to teach from a trauma informed perspective and have experience with and personal understanding of neurodivergence. My classes are suitable for different learning styles, levels of concentration and designed to support regulation of nervous systems, however you arrive on the mat.

I hope I’ve answered any questions you may have (and a few you didn’t realise you had!) but please do message me to ask anything at all.
