TBMG Patient Participation Group (PPG) – Our Patient Participation Group met yesterday evening, here’s a quick round-up of the discussions we had:

✅ We discussed how we have extended eConsult hours — now available 8am to 6.30pm on weekdays to help tackle phone queues.

✅ Based on PPG feedback, our website now showcases the full range of roles in the practice, so you can see who’s who and understand why you might see a different healthcare professional.

💚 We heard from our Social Prescribing team (MIND) about the support available for wellbeing, loneliness, and community connection.

🕐 We also discussed Enhanced Access (evening and weekend appointments) and how local practices are working together to offer more choice.

💻 Plus, we’re planning an interactive digital session to help make online services even easier to use.

You can do 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 more than just ask for an appointment through eConsult, without the need to wait on hold – eConsult lets you send your request online, any time during working hours. It helps free up the phones for people who can’t get online easily.

✅ Get help for non-urgent medical problems
✅ Discuss test results
✅ Request a sick note (fit note)
✅ Ask questions about your medication
✅ Order repeat prescriptions
✅ Request a GP letter or medical report
✅ Book a smear test
✅ Ask for a vaccine or injection

🕗 Available Monday to Friday, 8am–6.30pm – So you can free up your lunch break, well... for lunch, and submit a quick and simple request that comes straight to your practice team.

We recently ran our very first Group Diabetes Medication Review at the practice, led by Dr Veeramasuneni and our Diabetes Nurse Specialist, Anu. It was such an inspiring event — seeing a (virtual) room full of patients come together to understand their diabetes better and take steps toward feeling healthier.

Group sessions aren’t just a new trend — they’re a friendly, supportive way for people to learn together. When patients share a room, conversations happen that don’t always come up in one-to-one appointments. People ask questions, swap tips, and often leave feeling more confident and hopeful.

During the session, we covered:
• The basics: what diabetes is and how it affects your body.
• How insulin works: how day-to-day choices can help balance it.
• Medications: what they do, how to take them safely, and when adjustments might be needed.
• Practical lifestyle tips: food, exercise, sleep, and stress management strategies that really make a difference.
• Understanding your numbers: HbA1c, blood glucose readings, and what they mean for you.
• Encouragement: diabetes doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With the right support, many people can improve their control — and for some, even reach remission.

The feedback from patients was fantastic. Many said they felt more informed, more supported, and more hopeful. A lot mentioned how helpful it was to learn alongside others who are on the same journey — it made everything feel less intimidating and easier to understand.

The room was full of support, and thoughtful discussion. People shared experiences, asked questions, and left with a renewed sense of understanding and confidence.

This is just the beginning! We’re excited to run more sessions and continue helping our patients in Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick take control of their diabetes with knowledge, support, and community.
