Big thanks to Thornbury Castle for hosting us for tea and biscuits today in their beautiful and opulent lounge! Residents enjoyed some fancy teas and coffees, and looking at all the wonderful art, architecture and decoration. Resident historian Tony told us all about Henry the 8th, and how the castle related to the bok he is reading about Robert Cecil, so we're now full of cosy drinks, full of art and full of fascinating history facts!

More animal fun with Bristol Reptile Encounters who along with snakes brought a selection of lizards and also Herman the Tortoise! Herman was a particular favourite with residents, many of whom had a tortoise as a pet at some point in their lives. Many stories were shared about tortoise keeping and folks were delighted to be able to see and interact with Herman and share some nostalgic tales with each other

Snakes Alive! Residents were delighted and fascinated, while staff made themselves scarce, as Bristol Reptile Encounters brought some slithery friends to visit us, including a 2.5m long Boa Constrictor! Animal visits are always popular and the handlers were so friendly and knowledgeable that everyone (apart from a few carers and managers!) felt comfortable handling even the biggest snake.

Residents got into the Halloween spirit last week with some wonderfully spooky pumpkin carving!
For many residents this was the first pumpkin they had carved, and enjoyed drawing the faces in and then helping to carve them out. Resident Brenda was surprised by her own artistic skill, saying 'I never thought I could make something like this, it looks like a real piece of art!' Pictured are some proud residents with their creations, and they looked even better set up outside with tealights shining through!

We were lucky enough to receive a visit from the RNLI yesterday, who gave a fascinating presentation on the history of the lifeboats, as well as the many ways they operate today, from pulling sailors off deep sea boat wrecks to saving horses trapped by the tide! Residents praised the brave men and women who volunteer for this work and thanked RNLI rep John for a very interesting talk. Resident Anne was especially interested, having grown up on the Guernsey coast and seen lifeboats in action many times as a child.
If you are able, please consider supporting the work of the RNLI, it costs £500000 per day to run the service and they rely on donations to make up the bulk of their income...

Huge congratulations to all our wonderful winners at the first annual Tony's Awards! Our residents wanted their own award ceremony to thank the dedicated team here at Grace that cares for them, and so the Tony's Awards was born!
Hosted by our resident compere Tony, and awards presented by Pat, residents and staff were over the moon with a successful ceremony followed by buffet, cocktails and music!

As presenter Pat commented 'You've got a lovely team here, everyone is so friendly and helpful and it's a real delight to be able to thank them a little bit for all the work they do.'

As well as flowers and a certificate, award winners also took home a special trophy that had been hand decorated by our residents, for a beautiful and personal reminder that the work they do is very appreciated.

Thanks to Tony, Pat and all our residents for a fantastic evening!

Thank you to BBC Gloucestershire and of course the fantastic Kelly's Donkeys for a beautiful day of memories, laughter, pets, and of course heaps of carrots for Barney!

Residents were given the opportunity to pet animals including guinea pigs, donkeys and rabbits.

Residents and staff had a wonderful afternoon at Thornbury Castle Hotel today, for a lovely coffee and a picnic! We saw beautiful gardens, amazing artwork and marvelled at the opulent decor of the place. Hotel staff were kind enough to give us some leaflets detailing the history of the place and much conversation was had about royal lineage and the surprising amount of Catherines in Tudor times! Residents waxed nostalgic about the local area and had fun trying to attract the local wildlife with pieces of sandwich...
