🎵Sharing the Joy of Music🎵

Last night residents, staff and guests were treated to a performance by The Caithness Schools Wind Band. From a medly of popular classic western themes to some rock favourites, everyone enjoyed the performance very much and if you look closely you'll see that some were singing along.
Thank you very much to all of the band members, for taking the time to gather and play for us, including our very own Katherine!
What a lovely treat our evening of music was. Music really is something that brings us together and provides such great joy and comfort.

In Remembrance

Yesterday we had a lovely Remembrance Sunday Service, which was very much appreciated by the residents. Thank you very much to Reverend Howard Stone for the meaningful service. It was so lovely and meaningful to have our own Remembrance Sunday observance in the home.

Community Spirit and festive cheer!

Last night Linda, Willie, Sandra, and Nancy attended Pennyland Primary School's Christmas market. It was a lovely evening and a nice way to ease in to the holiday season, made even more special by our friendship with Pennyland School. In fact, many of the p7 students who visit the home stopped to say hello and we also had a lovely chat with their teacher, Mrs. Parnell. The market was to raise funds for the students' Christmas treat: a trip to the cinema in December. We hope that their fundraising went very well!
The evening was made even more special for Linda, as she was joined by her daughter, Nicole. The pair were able to browse and shop and enjoy the time together. We hope to do the same for more families as we approach the holidays.

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

A Busy Afternoon

This afternoon we packed the schedule! First we enjoyed a session of Burns Gym, which got our blood pumping. Next, we had a residents’ meeting, where the residents had a lot of great ideas for ways to enjoy the Residents‘ Fund. Watch this space to see them all in action.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November

That’s how the old rhyme starts. But what are we remembering - and why - on 5th November? Why are we still remembering it 420 years later? And why with bonfires and effigies (not always of Guy Fawkes)?

Join us on Wednesday, 5th November, at 2.30pm for a fascinating talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at University of Westminster.

In this talk Pippa Catterall will explore the background to and events of that long-ago November night, why it was deemed so important to remember it then and how our memory of the Gunpowder Plot has shifted over the intervening years.

The event will be available to watch via YouTube live, please contact the home for more information.

💕Thank You💕

We recently received a very kind donation from Mina MacKay school of dance for the residents of the home, and would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for this kind gesture, which has been added to the Residents' Fund. The Residents' Fund is there for the residents to make the most out of Life Enrichment at Pentland View, allowing them to do things above and beyond our monthly means.
In the photo are Katherine, Fiona, and Nancy accepting the generous cheque from Mina, herself.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

30/10/2025

There were lots of ghoulish goings-on at a community Halloween party hosted by Pentland View care home in Thurso.
Residents and staff decorated the lounges in suitably spooky style and took part in themed activities with local children getting involved. There was even a Halloween disco, complete with lights and glowsticks.

🎃🍂Seasonal Fun🍂🎃

What fun we’ve been having celebrating the Autumn season and Halloween in a cosy and not-so-spooky way! Yesterday we enjoyed a Halloween themed intergenerational music class with our friends at Play Away Music UK. What a delight the little ones were, as always, as we stirred our cauldrons and sang seasonal songs.
🥂We also indulged in Halloween themed cocktails and the wee cheeky shandy while watching classic Halloween cartoons and the classic Adams Family series. We do know how to have a bootiful time!🎃
