Green Feather Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy

Green Feather Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Counselling for children, young people, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse and life events. I am based in Tilehurst, Reading.

Hello, I'm Rosie and I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I work with adults and children and young people from the age of 5 years. I believe that we all have the ability to grow, heal and change, regardless of what we have experienced in life. I am committed to providing psychotherapeutic counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space, where you can feel supported, listened to and accepted. I believe that everyone is unique and that people are diverse and complex. I place a strong emphasis on building a trusting, supportive and caring therapeutic relationship with you in order to create a firm foundation for the work we will do together. I believe that because of our uniqueness, there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. I therefore draw from a range of theories and techniques including person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT. I offer short term and open ended counselling, working alongside you at your own pace, in order to support you to uncover the root of your issues and make the changes you require in your life. I have over 20 years experience of working with children and young people and offer counselling for a wide range of issues, from the ages of 5 upwards. I offer shorter sessions for young children, where we can draw, colour and do arts and crafts, whilst we talk.

According to the dictionary ...

Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.

But kindness means so much more ...

Kindness can mean different things to different people. The meaning is in how YOU choose to show it. Be it through empathy, acceptance, kind gestures, thoughtfulness, the possibilities are entirely up to you. Kindness might look like being helpful or showing empathy. It may mean doing nice things without expecting nice things in return.

But kindness goes beyond merely being nice.

Think about it - would you prefer people to describe you to be "kind" or "nice?" There can be a lack of sincerity in just being nice; there is often a perception of doing the minimum. Whereas, being kind is doing intentional, voluntary acts of kindness. Not only when it’s easy to be kind, but when it’s hard to be.

Living with anxiety often feels like a constant, underlying feeling of dread, where everyday life is shadowed by persistent fear, overthinking, and intense physical tension.

It is exhausting!

Talking to someone about how you are feeling can help massively, by validating your feelings, reducing isolation, and offering new perspectives that can lower stress levels. It acts as a release for pent-up worry, helps label emotions to calm the brain's fear centre and provides practical support, such as coping techniques, to manage overwhelm.

Mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, aunts, nieces, fiancees...the list goes on! What would we do without them?

We all know some incredibly strong women and International Women's Day is all about celebrating them and how much we love, respect and value them.

However International Women's Day is also about highlighting the fact that gender inequality still exists, even in our own country.

The theme for International Women's Day 2026 is "Give to Gain" – a call to help forge gender equality through abundant giving.

When people, organisations and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.

"Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality."

Everyday worry is a temporary, specific, and manageable mental reaction to real-life stressors, such as finances or work, that usually passes.

In contrast, anxiety is an intense, persistent, and often irrational, generalised, or vague feeling of dread that can cause physical symptoms, significantly impair daily functioning, and linger long after a situation is resolved.

Today is Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day.

Some dissociative disorders are very short-lived, perhaps following a traumatic life event, and resolve on their own over a matter of weeks or months.

However others can last much longer.

People with Dissociative Identity Disorder may feel disconnected from themselves and the world around them, may forget about certain time periods, events and personal information, may feel uncertain about who they are and may have multiple distinct identities.

Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day aims to help people to understand what DID is and to be more compassionate and supportive towards those who are living with it.

Embracing gratitude is the practice of appreciating what you have.

Often, it’s the normal, everyday experiences of our lives that provide us with the biggest reasons to express our gratitude:

- Having a safe, warm home to live in.
- Being loved and appreciated by family and friends.
- Possessing a strong heart and healthy lungs.
- Your first sip of coffee in the morning.
- The ability to open your eyes and greet a brand new day.

I am a big fan of deep breathing to help to calm yourself down when you are feeling nervous or anxious.

I often teach my young clients Five Finger Breathing or Star Breathing as well, but I personally prefer this. It also helps me if I find a square to follow with my eyes as I breathe in, hold and breathe out to the count of 4.
