PRP Joint & Tendon Injections
PAL3 Medical | Regenerative Medicine by NHS Trained Clinicians
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) uses your own blood’s healing components to reduce pain, improve function, and support tissue repair in joints and tendons — without steroids or surgery.
⸻
When is PRP Appropriate?
PRP may be suitable if you:
• Have persistent joint or tendon pain lasting >3 months
• Have failed or only partially responded to rest, physiotherapy, or simple analgesia
• Want to avoid steroids or delay surgery
• Have a clearly identified diagnosis (clinical assessment ± imaging such as ultrasound or MRI)
Commonly treated areas
• Knees (early–moderate osteoarthritis)
• Shoulders (rotator cuff tendinopathy)
• Elbow (tennis/golfer’s elbow)
• Achilles tendon
• Patellar tendon
• Hip tendinopathy
• Plantar fasciitis
⸻
When PRP Is NOT Suitable
PRP is not appropriate if you:
• Have an active infection, fever, or skin infection at the injection site
• Have certain blood disorders, platelet dysfunction, or severe anaemia
• Are on anticoagulants that cannot be safely paused
• Have active cancer or are undergoing chemotherapy
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have end-stage joint disease where surgery is the only realistic option
A full medical screening is completed before any treatment.
⸻
Involving Your GP & Knowing the Diagnosis
We strongly recommend:
• Discussing your condition and PRP suitability with your GP or specialist
• Understanding exactly what structure is injured (joint cartilage vs tendon vs ligament)
• Sharing any imaging reports, clinic letters, or physiotherapy notes
PRP works best when the target problem is clearly defined.
⸻
Symptoms PRP Can Help With
• Ongoing pain and stiffness
• Reduced movement or strength
• Pain with load, sport, or daily activities
• Recurrent flare-ups
• Loss of confidence in movement
How PRP Helps
• Delivers a high concentration of growth factors
• Supports tissue repair and collagen remodelling
• Reduces inflammation without suppressing healing
• Improves joint lubrication and tendon resilience
⸻
Treatment Plan & Expected Results
Typical course
• 1–3 injections, spaced 4–6 weeks apart
• Tailored to your condition, severity, and response
What to expect
• Mild discomfort or flare for 24–72 hours
• Gradual improvement from 4–6 weeks
• Best results often seen at 8–12 weeks
How long do results last?
• Many patients experience relief for 6–18 months
• Some require top-up treatments depending on activity levels and joint health
PRP is not a quick fix — it is a regenerative process that improves over time.
