Melasma - The mask of pregnancy 🤰
Pregnancy is full of weird and wonderful symptoms and side effects. It seems whenever something funky is happening with your body and you Google it accompanied by “pregnancy” you discover it’s just a pregnancy “thing”.
I’m 23 weeks now with my second baby and my melasma has returned in exactly the same spots as I had it with my first. A tiny little spot on my cheekbone and matching discolouration on each thumb! 👍
Melasma is nothing to worry about, it is triggered by hormonal changes and usually disappears on its own once baby arrives. Melasma is caused by the same increase in melanin that causes the linea nigra, the line that may appear down the middle of your bump.
Make sure you use sun protection in this heat to protect your skin, especially with these pigmentation changes going on.
What is a weird and wonderful pregnancy symptom you are experiencing? Or experienced in your pregnancy?
