Please come along and support these amazing young musicians. We are delighted to, once again, sponsor the winners trophy.

Tonbridge Music Club (TMC) held a concert on Sunday entitled ‘A Showcase of TMC Award Winners 2024’ where five young musicians displayed their talents to an audience at the Music Suite, Somerhill School.

Those performing included flautist Sophia Shaw, who in addition to receiving a TMC Award also won the 2025 Tonbridge Young Musician Competition, promoted by Tonbridge Rotary Club. Sophia has recently started in the sixth form at Judd School and is also attending the Junior Academy of Music in London.

Other individual performers included Marcy Maye Winter and James Rowlands (both drums) and Jing-Yi Zhao (piano). James Milgate was unable to be present, but the audience heard a recording of him playing electric guitar with his band ‘Going Postal.’

SAIF Statement: Parliamentary Debate on Funeral Regulation

29 October 2025

This week, Parliament held a debate on the regulation and inspection of funeral services across the UK. During the discussion, Simon H***e MP acknowledged the valuable contribution of independent funeral directors and recognised the constructive role that SAIF continues to play in shaping future regulation.

SAIF welcomes the recognition of the professionalism and public service demonstrated daily by independent funeral directors throughout the country. The debate also underlined the complexity of implementing the full recommendations from the Fuller Inquiry — a challenge SAIF has highlighted to Government.

Our position remains clear: regulation must be proportionate, practical, and focused on protecting bereaved families and ensuring minimum standards for the care of the deceased, while supporting the continued success of small, family-run funeral businesses.

SAIF will continue to engage closely with the Ministry of Justice, other Government departments, and key stakeholders within the funeral sector to ensure that the voice of funeral directors is clearly heard and properly represented as the next steps are developed.

Pray for Jamaica as they wait for the storm to hit them.

Don’t forget to change your clocks tonight. One hour back. Enjoy the lie in, we will.

Sadly this is so heartbreakingly true 💔 Just lately we are having more and more drivers on the roads being impatient and trying to push in on the Funeral Cortège’s in between the Hearse and the Limousines with bereaved family members in, and even on funerals with our horses too.

This is happening to the point where accidents have nearly been caused because someone just wants to cut in or to cut through.

I appreciate we drive slower, but this is someone’s final journey, and this is done out of respect.

Whether this makes you 30 seconds, one minute or two minutes late for where you need to be, think about that person who has passed and the families that are following.

A final journey is so precious 🤍

We love what we do, making an incredibly tough day better. We also love ‘different’ and this last two weeks we have arranged some very different funerals. Using Tonbridge Castle, complete with a horse drawn hearse all the way from East Peckham. We think the castle chamber is a wonderful setting for a small congregation and we are grateful to TMBC staff for their support.
