I always ask people where they'd like me to focus during a treatment, because generally everyone has a few areas that are niggling or causing discomfort. I do love it when people say 'just see what you can find' though - and then we're both surprised with what we discover πŸ˜†.
Please never apologise for how tense you are - it's literally why I do what I do and I love a challenge. You should probably not leave it so long before your next massage though πŸ˜‰.

Do share these with anyone who might find them useful.

I don't often use tools in my treatments, but sometimes this is just what's needed. It's honestly like magic. It's used with barely any pressure and reduces tension as well as soreness really swiftly.
I had the option of buying this in stainless steel but it looked way too much like a surgical instrument. I'd like to think this looks a little more friendly.

Introducing the treatment space at my new location in central Tonbridge. Very nearly done, just some shelves to come, and it feels like a serene cocoon of calm.
I hope to treat you here some time soon.

I am seeing my last clients for the year today and will return to work on Tuesday 7th January.
If you've not seen it pop into your inboxes, I sent a newsletter the other day, including an offer for the new year - you can read it at the link below (where you can also sign up to receive it if you'd like).

Spotted recently at Flying Tiger (because when you have kids, you can't walk past that shop, can you?).

I'm a big fan of a bit of self treatment and suggest the use of massage/trigger point balls to many of my clients between treatments. They can really help to take the edge of a sore spot and increase mobility.

If you have any questions on how to use them for a specific muscle group, just get in touch to ask (or better yet, ask at your next appointment πŸ˜‰).

Happy Friday all!
I've just sent out a newsletter (if you're keeping count, that's the second one this year, so I really am not hassling you - do sign up at the link below if you'd like), covering some summer preparations with our muscles, joints and tissues in mind, a list of things you can stop apologising for when coming for a treatment (hairy legs are fine!) and an update on the online booking system over the summer holidays.

You can read the newsletter at the link below and of course get in touch if you have any questions or queries at all.

Did you know there's lots of ways that you can make a massage treatment totally unique to you? I do my part by asking you what you would like to get from the treatment and getting the ins and outs of how you got sore or tight in the first place, but here's a few really simple ways that you can ensure you get the absolute most from your time with me.
Do shout if you can think of any others - I'm always all ears!

πŸ’†πŸ½β€β™€οΈBe vocal. You're always encouraged to give feedback during your treatment if something doesn't quite hit the spot or you could do with a little less or more pressure. I mean it when I tell you that I welcome all feedback and promise that I won't be offended πŸ˜‰. Definitely be honest when I ask you how the pressure is feeling.
It's YOUR time, that you're paying your hard earned money for, I really want it to be the best treatment for you that it possibly can.

πŸ’†πŸ½β€β™€οΈAfter care. Make the benefits of your massage last as long as possible by resting a little afterwards (letting the treatment percolate and work its magic). Stay hydrated, do any stretches I might have suggested for you or any adjustments to daily activities we discussed.

πŸ’†πŸ½β€β™€οΈMake the treatment truly and comfortably yours. Did you know you can ask me to put different music on? Whatever chills you out, I can put on for you (as long as it's on spotify!). Would you like an extra blanket? You got it! Warmer room - check. Complete quiet - okie doke. If you can think of anything else to make you more comfy, cozy and relaxed - I'll aim to get it sorted and set up for you.

πŸ’†πŸ½β€β™€οΈBreathe deeply. Make the absolute most of your time on the massage couch with nothing to do and nowhere to be. Take nice long, mindful breaths. Not only will your nervous system thank you, but it'll also help your muscles let go of any tension that I'm working into.

πŸ’†πŸ½β€β™€οΈTurn your phone off. I always forget to mention this but it's a big one - not only do you not want to get interrupted during your time with me, I'm likely to get startled if a phone pings, which isn't so nice for you on the receiving end πŸ˜„.

For a few more pointers and other good stuff (including a way to get Β£10 off your next treatment), head on over to the most current newsletter at the link below.

See you either in the next week or so, or in 2024! πŸŽ†

23/11/2023

There's no shame in wanting light pressure in a treatment. You're not a whimp and there's no truth at all in the old 'no pain no gain' saying.

Lots of people have asked for lighter pressure and a more gentle, full body approach to treatments recently and I can tell you why - we're all exhausted. 2023 has been off the scale in terms of stress and overload (on a global level) and we're all feeling it.
And while lots of people find deep pressure really relaxing, there's plenty of benefits to be had from a lighter massage, too. It's incredibly soothing for the nervous system, which is something we could all do with and will have a positive effect on literally every single system in your body. And in terms of muscle tension - even the lightest pressure reverberates through the tissue layers and you will feel the benefit. Promise.

I can and will adjust each treatment according to what you need, even if you change your mind halfway through - we can change it up at any point.

I've popped some more thoughts on gentleness in this upcoming season in my most recent newsletter, which you can read here - https://mailchi.mp/0e3b9262256b/comfort-over-everything
(you can also sign up and considering that this is only the second one I sent this year, it's safe to say I won't bombard you πŸ˜‰).

Our Story

Treatments by Silke at The Massage Practice are tailored to your individual needs, so no two treatments are the same. Treatments offered: - Sports massage - Deep tissue / therapeutic massage - Holistic / Swedish massage - Pregnancy massage - ScarWork - Seated acupressure I have been practising massage for over 10 years now and have worked with a huge range of clients from athletes to desk workers, teenagers to the elderly, pre and post natal women etc. Some of the benefits that massage can bring and that I have seen in my clients: - Increased range of movement and flexibility in joints and muscles - Faster healing after an injury - Reduction of scar tissue and pain from old injuries - Identify and address muscular imbalance - Improved circulation and removal of toxins - Faster recovery after exercise / a sporting event - Improved sleep and mood - Increased postural and body awareness A new therapy recently added is ScarWork and here’s a little info: ScarWork is used to improve feeling and functionality in the scar and surrounding tissues, creating better movement between the layers of the skin, connective tissue and muscle. Tightness in surrounding tissues can reduce, helping restore normal muscle function. Knots and tight, ropey scars are often softened and loosened and ridges and holes may be minimised. Visually scars often appear smaller, flatter, lighter and less prominent but the emphasis is on the underlying tissue changes. Dense scar tissue can reduce, nerve impairment such as numbness, pain, itching, irritation or extreme sensitivity may improve. It is not painful to receive and can bring benefits for new as well as very old scars. Almost any scar can be treated, here is just a small list: Abdominal surgery, C-section, cancer surgery, knee surgery, mastectomy, open heart surgery, tube/drain sites, road traffic accident, spinal surgery, facial scars, foot surgery, hip replacement, hysterectomy. - ScarWork is not a replacement for conventional treatment however. Keloid scars, stretch marks and acne scars can not be treated with ScarWork. If you are in doubt, ask your doctor or consultant if you can safely have massage on your scar.

Opening hours: Wednesday 9:30 - 13:30 (term time only) Thursdays and Fridays 9:30 – 16:30 (last appointment start time) Evening appointments on any day are available as home visits (at a small extra cost to allow for travel time).
