Please note, this page is not monitored for appointment bookings, treatment inquiries, or medical assistance. Our vision is better health and care for all. We are proud pioneers in integrating health and social care nationally. We passionately believe that the best way to care for people is by focusing on what matters to them, putting them at the centre of everything we do and integrating services around them. We believe that care as close to home as possible benefits everyone. Never has our vision been more important. The impact of COVID-19 has not only increased the pressure across all aspects of health and social care, but those who live in our most deprived coastal communities have seen an increasing gap in health inequalities. We provide health and social care services to our people in their own homes or in their local community. We also run Torbay Hospital (providing acute hospital services) as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham. We support around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season. We are passionate about creating a fairer and more inclusive NHS for everyone. We employ over 6,500 staff, including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, consultants, and physiotherapists, as well as highly skilled managers, administrators and technical experts. Our people work in a wide range of settings and locations across our communities, depending on their individual role or circumstances. We also have over 800 volunteers who make a difference every day to the people we care for and the services we provide. We were proud to be the first NHS Trust in England to integrate hospital and community care with social care. Now, as a well-established integrated care organisation (ICO) of more than seven years’ standing, we know first-hand the positive impact that working together in partnership with others has on our local population – giving everyone a brighter future.

This Malnutrition Awareness Week we’re celebrating the incredible work of our colleagues.

👋 Meet Rachel Gilbert, our first Dietetic Assistant Practitioner (DAP) within our Nutrition and Dietetics team.

Rachel works within the paediatric team, providing expert support to the dietitian-led Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) service, as well as assisting with general paediatric patients. She works closely with registered dietitians to provide families with dairy-free weaning advice, reintroduction guidance, and to carry out yearly reviews for all patients within the CMPA service.

Dietetic Assistant Practitioners play a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery of patient care — helping to free up valuable dietetic time, support improvement projects and audits, and contribute to ongoing service development.

💙 Rachel’s enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment to improving patient experience make her a wonderful first representative of this new role within our Trust.

As we mark Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025, we’re reminded that addressing malnutrition is a team effort and it’s roles like Rachel’s that make a real difference every day.

🤖 Versius the robotic surgeon has had a busy first month!

Since launching on 15 October 2025, Versius Plus has already supported nine patients at Torbay Hospital, helping them recover faster after procedures like gallbladder removal and colorectal cancer surgery.

Using gamer-style console controls and a 3D view for incredible precision, our surgeons are seeing real benefits including less pain and quicker recovery times for patients.

Consultant Surgeon Adam Kimble says the new technology is a “game-changer”, and the team has already completed:
• 3 colorectal cancer surgeries
• 6 gallbladder removals

The robot is also boosting training and teamwork across our surgical teams, with expert support from visiting proctors.

A huge thank you to everyone involved keep a look out on our socials for more Versius updates!

This week’s heartwarming feedback shines a light on some of our incredible Torbay Hospital volunteers and one very special therapy dog! 🐾

“This morning I had a hospital appointment. All the posts I have seen, including my own, have been to say thank you to all the staff who work at the hospital, from nurses to doctors.

I was sat on Level 4 after my appointment waiting for a volunteer called Rhona, who has a therapy dog called Boris. She takes him to Oncology every Monday to say hello before heading home. I met her over a year ago when I started my Radiotherapy they were both fantastic, and Boris relaxes you when you say hello and stroke him.

I also saw more volunteers helping people find their way around the hospital — which can be daunting if you’ve never been before.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Rhona (and Boris!), and to all the wonderful volunteers who give up their time to help others. You all do a fantastic job, well done, all of you!” 💙

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers and their furry friends who bring comfort, reassurance, and smiles to patients and visitors every day — your kindness truly makes a difference. 🐶🌼
