Training day at A&J Opticians! 🤓

We had a fantastic in-practice session yesterday with Amy from , who introduced our team to the brand new Eye Ruler technology. Sam, James and Jess all got hands on with the device and learned how it helps us take even more accurate, personalised measurements for every patient.

This training marks the start of some very exciting updates coming to our lens range for 2026. We’re refreshing and upgrading our entire offering and here’s your little preview:

✨ All of our lenses will soon be fully bespoke, tailored precisely to each individual’s visual needs.
✨ This means sharper vision, better comfort, and lenses that are uniquely optimised for you.
✨ The new technology helps us fine-tune every measurement for the most advanced lens designs available.

We’re really looking forward to bringing these enhancements to our patients. Watch this space… big things are coming!

It seems our resident naughty Christmas elf has finally been caught red-handed—
literally trying to move the CCTV camera so we “wouldn’t know what he was up to.”

We absolutely caught him.

Thank you for all the lovely messages welcoming James back - they’ve genuinely meant so much! He’s not been back for long and the test room hasn’t stopped… and it’s been wonderful hearing how many patients have missed his calm, thorough approach.

For anyone struggling with dry eyes, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), or recurrent blepharitis, James has a particular clinical interest in these conditions. He’s back offering detailed assessments, meibomian gland evaluation, and tailored treatment plans to help improve long-term comfort. We’re also pleased to offer BlephEx®️, an in-practice lid hygiene treatment that gently removes the biofilm and debris that contribute to blepharitis - a great way to ‘reset’ your eyelid health and support your home-care routine.

After a year in Bradford, James has already thrown himself back into the rhythm of North Devon life - reconnecting with patients, settling back into the clinic, and even managing to get out for a few waves again. 🌊 🏄‍♂️ Here’s a little behind the scenes moment of James settling back in…right where he belongs 👓 ✨

Big News at A&J Opticians! ✨

If you’ve known us for a while, you’ll know that James has poured his heart into A&J Opticians for almost two decades. What many of you might not know is that he’s spent those same years carrying a dream — to complete his Optometry degree.

And now…
🎓 At almost 50 years old, James is about to graduate from with honours.
A huge achievement, and a reminder that it’s never too late to chase what truly matters.

So, what does this mean for the future of the practice?

With James’ decades of dispensing expertise and brand-new clinical qualification, and Amanda’s vast experience in eye examinations, our clinical offering is stronger than ever.

On the practice floor, Sam and Jess continue to shine with their fantastic dispensing knowledge and frame-styling skills — helping every patient find lenses and eyewear that feel as good as they look.

Together, they make up an amazing team of professionals dedicated to looking after all your eyecare needs.

CLOSED….
Monday 30th May and Tuesday 31st May.
Due to some long awaited and essential repair work we need to close the practice on these two days.
We will be open again as usual on Wednesday 1st June.
We are sorry for the inconvenience of this. For any eye related emergencies please call 111 for advice. We will be unable to answer the practice phone or reply to any social media messages or emails as our staff are unable to be on the premises whilst the work is being carried out.

In response to the Met Office’s severe weather warning for Friday 18th February we have made the decision to close the practice to reduce the risk to patients and staff.
