Today we handed in our Out of Sight petition, calling for blind and partially sighted people get the vision rehabilitation support they need, when they need it, to the Department of Health and Social Care.

An incredible 48,484 of you signed it – thank you so much.

We set off from Parliament Square on a cane walk to the hand-in, showing the vital mobility skills blind and partially sighted people develop, alongside many others, through vision rehabilitation.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting can’t now be in any doubt about public support for action to ensure effective vision rehabilitation services in England.

Watch this space for updates on the next stages of our campaign.

Simple visual filters and colour contrast can make a powerful difference for children with low vision.

Research* shows that coloured filters can improve contrast, reduce glare, and ease light sensitivity this can help children feel more comfortable and confident in everyday activities like reading, learning, and playing.

For many children, these small changes can mean less eye strain, better focus and greater independence. Every child’s vision is unique, which is why the right support and personalised solutions matter so much.

We offer a range of childrens fileters and frame - for guideance please visit our website

If you’re looking for a magnifier that adapts to whatever your day brings, our Dart hand-held magnifier is designed to make life a little easier.

The Dart range lets you switch between magnification levels using simple interchangeable lens heads, ideal if you move between reading, labels, hobbies, or detailed tasks. Each one includes a bright, true‑colour LED light to help boost contrast and clarity without adding glare.

The handle is comfortable to hold, even if you have reduced dexterity. And when you want both hands free? Dart converts into a stand magnifier, giving you stable support for reading, writing, or craft work, while still letting you pick it up and use it as a handheld when you need to.

A flexible, everyday tool designed to support your independence — wherever you use it.

A huge congratulations to every athlete who took part in the Paralympic Winter Games in Italy this year and to the incredible medal winners. Your determination continues to inspire.

A special shout‑out to competitors with low vision, whose trust, teamwork, and precision on the snow are nothing short of extraordinary. The BBC has a great piece explaining how visually impaired athletes compete at this level — well worth a read (link in comments).🏅💙❄️

A question we get asked a lot: “How much magnification do I actually need?”
Honestly… usually less than you think.

Stronger magnification isn’t always better — it can make the lens smaller, reduce how much you see at once, and actually make reading more tiring.

A good rule of thumb is to use the lowest magnification that still lets you see clearly. If you’ve got a test reading chart, try it at about 25 cm with your reading glasses on - the smallest line you can comfortably read gives you a rough starting point.

And remember, things like lighting, contrast and fatigue all play a part too.

If you’re unsure, you’re not alone and you don’t have to guess. Head to our website for some support.

Living with glaucoma often means dealing with glare and light sensitivity — but the right filters and lighting can make a real difference.

Here are some tips from our professionals

Choosing Filters

Don’t go too dark — you still need enough light entering the eye.
Aim for a filter that reduces glare without dimming your world.
Look for lenses that boost contrast, clarity and natural colour.
Take a look at filters 12, 21 and 22 in our catalogue these are a good starting point.

Task lighting is also especially helpful, as the macular cones in the central retina need strong, focused light to work well. Daylight task lamps offer adjustable brightness, flexible arms and different colour temperatures — making reading, crafting and everyday tasks easier.
