Torbay Men's Wellbeing Design Day 31/01/26:
Wow, simply WOW. What a day! Where to start...
We had originally prepared for a maximum of around 12 participants for this session, based upon interest. We ended up with more or less 20 incredible and passionate guys rallying together for the shared purpose of desiring to make Torbay a better place for wellbeing, safety, support and connection. The energy in the house was so beautifully empowering, it encapsulated everything we had hoped for and more, so thank you all again!
We started the day with our usual "check in", modeled from our Dough Bros programme, this always helps to "break the ice" so to speak. As it's not an easy thing to just turn up to a room full of fellows and feel at ease enough to get stuck straight in, so we always try to acknowledge that and give the time and space required to land.
After the check in's, we had an introduction to the day by our founder and lead facilitator, Simon Dyer. This set the tone for the day and laid out examples of our core values and models for the kind of programmes we were hoping to design and create together going forwards...
Then the exciting parts,
Pizza Pirates UK style pizzas for lunch, a joint activity, demonstrated and led by example by some of the team. Participants always have the option to make their own pizzas, as we do in our longstanding Dough Bros program.
Following on from that, the main part of the day - the DESIGN - so wonderful to be part of!
We split into groups of 4 and got the brains and emotions ticking, coming up with activities and programmes that we could envisage creating and running in Torbay, open to the public but specialised for men. Some examples were choir groups, 5-a-side football with feelings, physical arts with stage performances, crafting and DIY, kite building, wood working and a host of others with a list far too expansive for Facebook!
We of course also discussed the logistics and practicalities of how we would go forwards with some of these bright ideas, the need for facilitators with some relevant experience, locations and any extra resources and funding we would need, since we have an initial plan for a 12 month programme but ideally would like to establish a collaborative in Torbay that could outlast that and become ever growing.
A truly amazing turn out which we were blessed to be able to host and be part of.
Once again, thanks to everyone who showed up and dedicated their love and energy to what is just the beginning of an amazing collaborative initiative for Torbay!
See you all soon,
Much love
