Imagine hiking up to a lookout pointā¦
and the second you reach the view
you turn around and walk away.
You wouldnāt.
Youād stand there.
Youād breathe it in.
Youād let it LAND.
Massage is the same.
Or think about a hug.
Not a quick 2 second polite hug.
A real one.
The kind where you stay.
Where you soften.
Where you FEEL it.
When you find a spot that needs attention
rhomboids
teres major
piriformis
levator scapula or whatever else area needs more care
STOP.
Stay.
10 seconds.
20 seconds.
Even longer sometimes!
Let your client savour the depth.
The sensation.
The relief.
Give them the time to ENJOY all the FEELS
Let their brain go
āoh my god that feels sooooo good, donāt go, wait!!!ā
Itās so frustrating when a therapist finally finds the spotā¦
and then moves on.
Stay stay stay.
This is what makes clients MELT.
This is what makes them come back.
Because pausing requires something from you.
It requires you to FEEL how your work feels.
To listen with your heart AND your hands.
To be patient.
To be slow.
To be fully connected to that one unique body in front of you.
Thatās where the magic is.
Iāve created a super simple Google doc with 10 other reasons why your clients are not coming back.
