Is Gua Sha relaxing? It is at Ripples.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, āGuaā means to stroke or scrape, and āShaā is the temporary redness that can appear on the skin. This is due to an increase in circulation where there has been stagnation.
Gua Sha shouldnāt be painful. The tool is glided over the skin with oil, alongside massage, to help release muscle tension.
The aim isnāt to scrape the skin forcefully or create dramatic bruising. A light flush or small marks can appear, but sometimes there are no marks at all ā and thatās completely fine. The goal is simply to encourage movement in the fascia and tissue to help the body settle and recover.
