Want to help ease neck and shoulder tension in 90 seconds which we use in our Towcester Osteo clinic... try this small but helpful biohack using your breathing! Breathe out for longer than in, 5:7 ratio if possible and focus on moving the lower hand as much or if possible more than the top one. It takes practice..especially if youre stressed but give it a try and let us know how you get on. We use this to help patients in pain and find its really helpful. Of course theres a WHOLE lot of other things we do and need checking with neck pain so get checked out if youre sore... but this quick tip can be super impact full so give it a try.

👀 We've been chatting to our BACK at EASE Clinical Pilates class participants recently about the evidence that the benefits of group exercise goes beyond just the action of the movements, you get better outcomes for pain management doing the same exercises in a group setting! ✅ My personal take on this is people are more likely to stick to exercises when they're supervised weekly and being in a class where others share their experiences builds social connections which we know helps with pain. This is one example of this type of interesting research and ahemmmm.... a great motivation to get to a class setting, one which is clinically oriented class which can adapt things for you.... like BACK at EASE Pilates classes for example....! 😉💯📍We've about 4 places left across our 7 classes a week timetable if you're interested come along and join us for a week. We've to date a 100% take up for those who do this when they see how we work and the lovely class environment the other like minded participants community brings.
💡 Group-based physical exercise was more successful in reducing pain intensity and functional impairment in patients with knee OA than individual exercise programs.
👉🏻 This is from the new paper "Effects of group-based versus individual physical exercise programs for knee osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis" by de Jesus Júnior et al 2025

Back pain is super annoying and manual therapy helps and we use it alongside exercise guidance in our Towcester Osteopathy clinic, but did you know heat is also on the NICE guidelines for symptom relief as an evidenced based way to help??? Of course, if you have pain you should get it checked out, but if you've been told it's just muscular or arthritic changes in the back- i.e., mechanical back pain... and you're not using heat AS WELL as any exercises and manual therapy... you're potentially missing an opportunity to ease symptoms. Give it a try and let us know how you get on. And if you need a hand give us a shout.

The beauty of having a small team is we really get to know our patients individually and are able to provide excellent continuity of care for them. You will always see the same person and not only will treatment get things back on track, we’re always available for any questions between appointments. No guessing what a hand out of exercises means, we send you videos with explanations and if you’re unsure, we’re here to check at any time :) We’re really proud that 95% of our referrals come from previous patients and over the past 9 years we have also built an excellent reputation with local GPs and Orthopaedic surgeons, who recommend their patients come and see us. Although we now focus only on providing quick access private care, we have previously helped out with a NHS MSK care contract- recognising the high quality manual therapy skills with comprehensive rehabilitation we provide for our patient.
Here at BACK at EASE we provide you with a clear explanation of what’s wrong, soothing gentle treatment informed by the very latest in pain and recovery research with a passion for making sure we offer practical do-able self care rehabilitation to get you back in the driving seat for your recovery as soon as possible. You’re not just having treatment, you’re learning self treatment!
About Susie the Clinic Lead.
I am an Osteopath and Clinic Director at BACK at EASE which I started in 2010 in Towcester and we help patients recover from pain and injury.
I graduated with a first class honours degree in Osteopathy from Oxford Brookes University and my Osteopathic training was based on evidence-based practice so I keep up to date with latest research in the manual therapy and rehabilitation field to give patients the very best chance of recovery. I also teach Clinical Pilates 1-1 and 7 years ago founded BACK at EASE Pilates classes and have a team of 3 excellent instructors who are Physiotherapists and Specialist Pilates instructors working with me providing small group, high quality Pilates classes in Northampton and Towcester which are perfect for those who have finished their treatment but need a little TLC whilst they get moving again.
As an Osteopath I use a wide range of manual techniques, including massage, stretches, joint mobilisation, manipulation and kinesiology-taping and integrate exercise rehabilitation and Clinical Pilates principles into patient treatments and all patients receive comprehensive home exercise plans and advice using Physiotec Software Package with HD videos of their rehabilitation to their mobile or computer. I have done post graduate training courses in Kinesiology-taping, Whiplash Management, Advanced cervical spine and lumbar spine manipulation techniques and am an Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) certified Clinical Pilates instructor.
Prior to becoming an Osteopath, I was a professional dancer and worked around the world performing in musical theatre shows mostly aboard large Cruise Ships. I attended Elmhurst Ballet School (which is now based at Birmingham Royal Ballet) and worked as a professional dancer working around the world and in London for 5 years. Over the years working as a dancer, you get many injuries and during this time, working closely with Osteopaths and Physiotherapists from the age of 16, I gained a unique insight into the journey of recovery from an injury and how working with the right team makes the recovery so much quicker and more rewarding; which sparked my interest in retraining to do the same. So I “retired!” at the age of 26 and used the biomechanical knowledge I’d gained as a dancer and initially trained in Personal Training and Pilates instruction before joining the Oxford Brookes BSc Osteopathy course in 2005, setting up BACK at EASE 5 years later and we’ve never looked back.
I know being in pain is miserable, I’ve been there first hand and I’m passionate about helping people get out of that cycle where because it is so sore, you don’t know what to do for the best so your world gets smaller; to a positive cycle of empowering you to know what’s wrong, what we can do about it and most importantly give you the tools to be better than ever with a little information and rehabilitation. If you know some one who would benefit from the care we can offer, please do share this page. Thanks so much and if you need help, you can book directly from this page or do just give us a call.
