👣 Winter Foot Care: Why It’s Important and How to Do It? 👣❄️
In the summer, we tend to pay more attention to our feet, as they are always in plain sight. While sandals don’t hide calluses and odors, closed, lined winter shoes and boots easily cover them up. However, these footwear also favor bacteria and fungi.
With the arrival of the cold months, not only our skin, but also our feet require special attention!
Let’s see what problems feet have to face during the closed shoe season:
Closed shoes:
No matter how wide the toe of a shoe is, the toes are still squeezed together.
Synthetic socks can cause sweating and irritation. And moisture builds up in the shoes, which causes discomfort. In addition, for example, underfloor heating can easily cause your feet to swell, and your toes can become compressed as a result.
In the winter months, when you have to sit in boots all day in a heated room, sweating feet is almost inevitable. If you don't do anything about it, you can even give free rein to fungus.
Simple solution: change of shoes, change of socks
Don't sit in a heated room all day in boots, ankle boots, or fur-lined shoes! Keep a change of shoes at your workplace! You can take them off from time to time without being noticed so that your feet can air out.
If your feet tend to sweat, in addition to your change of shoes, it's a good idea to keep an extra pair of stockings or thin cotton socks in your desk drawer, so you can replace the ones you put on in the morning.
Dead skin cells behind odors
The skin - including the feet - is naturally home to countless microorganisms that feed on dead skin cells. The byproduct of these microorganisms is the unpleasant odor that you may experience if you do not take proper care of your feet.
That is why it is important to wear comfortable, well-ventilated shoes - preferably made of leather and not plastic or artificial leather - that do not press on your feet anywhere and thus do not increase the formation of calluses, and to pay enough attention to regular foot care even in winter!
Take care of your shoes!
In winter, it is especially important not to wear the same shoes two days in a row. Footwear needs at least one day to air out and dry out, even if your feet do not sweat much! Use a shoe disinfectant spray!
Here are some tips for winter foot care:
Foot bath: Occasionally treat your feet to a warm bath enriched with essential oils and mineral salts to relax and regenerate them.
Peeling: You can use a scrub or a heel file after soaking once a week to delay the thickening of calluses!
Hydration: Use a rich, nourishing foot cream to prevent the skin from drying out. Vitamin E and shea butter work wonders!
Nails: never let your nails grow while wearing closed shoes! Longer nails are easily pressed, aired out, and the nail plate separates from the cuticle skin! This is not a loophole, but a huge opportunity for fungi to settle!
Nail polish and gel polish are for wearing open shoes!
Your nails will thank you! (Except: travel from winter to summer, wellness, occasional)
Regular care: Don't let calluses cause discomfort! Using the services of a podiatrist is not a luxury! Don't only go to a podiatrist when there is a problem! Professionals will notice if something is wrong with your feet even before you feel any pain!
Remember! The health of your feet is essential during the winter season! Take the necessary steps and enjoy comfortable, healthy steps! 🌟
