An Ode to Mum

She was only a girl when she became a “Mum,”
Five small hearts beating as she held her childs hands.
Still learning herself, navigating this so called life,
That came with some shouting, its troubles and strife.

She had left Kirkconnel, and the fractured wounds.
Some wounds made her quiet,
Some walls she couldnt climb,
But she always hoped, she would, at some point, find her time to shine.

Love was there —
But sometimes she didn’t know how to speak.

Now her five children stand in separate silence,
Grief building bridges they have yet to cross
Words sit heavy between them,
Unsaid, but understood, trying to navigate this loss.

She struggled.
She stumbled.
She stayed.

And when her breathing softened quietly into silent peace,
It was love that held her —
Gentle and forgiving, whole at last.

A daughter
A sister
A mother.
A friend
A wounded woman.
Our Mum and Nana Flo
Finally at peace, where pain cannot follow or bring harm.

And everlasting love, at last, calls Flora by her name,
and she is welcomed into God's open arms once again.

See you later Alligator

From March 2nd, the Scottish Government has now approved Hydrolysis as an alternative funeral option away from burial or cremation, and while there is no facility available at present in South West Scotland, hopefully it wont be long
Alkaline hydrolysis, also known as water cremation, aquamation, or resomation, is an eco-friendly funeral alternative that uses water, heat, and potassium hydroxide to accelerate natural decomposition. It breaks down soft tissues in a pressurized vessel over 4–16 hours, leaving only bone fragments, which are then processed into ashes and returned to the family.

If people truly knew how much I miss you,
they wouldn’t ask how I’m doing.
They would wonder how I’m still standing,
how I still wake up,
how I still breathe through days that feel heavier than the last.

Missing you isn’t one moment.
It’s every moment that followed the one where everything changed.
It’s in the quiet mornings,
the empty spaces,
the pauses where your name almost slips out of my mouth. 🌫️

Some days I carry the grief gently,
like a photograph folded carefully in my pocket.
Other days it feels like a weight on my chest,
reminding me that love doesn’t disappear just because someone does. 🤍

I smile when I have to.
I laugh when it’s expected.
But there’s a part of me that still waits—
as if you might walk back in,
as if time might feel merciful for just one second. 🕯️

They don’t see the conversations I still have with you.
The way I talk to the sky.
The way memories arrive without warning
and leave me breathless in their wake. 🌙

If people knew how much I miss you,
they’d understand that survival isn’t strength.
It’s simply what love does when it has nowhere else to go.
It stays.
It aches.
It learns how to live alongside the loss. 🖤

I am still breathing,
not because it’s easy,
but because love like this doesn’t end—
it transforms into something quieter,
something deeper,
something that lives in every heartbeat. 🌊

So I carry you with me.
In the silence.
In the sorrow.
In the small moments that still feel too big without you.

Missing you isn’t weakness.
It’s proof that you mattered.
And you always will. 🤍

So very true! Dont let your worklife stop you from being where you need to be either... wish I had learned that sooner!

I’ve learned that presence can be a kind of healing.
A message sent without expectation.
A hand held without advice.
A reminder that grief, pain, and loss do not need to be rushed away
to make others comfortable

Can I just have a big shout out to the man who repeatedly sees me at my worst and occasionally at my best. Who never passes judgement. Never comments about my hair, or clothes. He just accepts me who I am, bleary eyed, worn pj's, and messy hair days never faze him. To mine and all the other Postmen ( and women) I thank you. Have the best Christmas and new year you fabulous non judgemental team ❤️ 📮💌
