Physiomac are running a CPD evening on managing knee pain in primary care. This is primarily aimed at GPs and GP trainees, but we would also welcome ANPs who are involved in the assessment of Musculoskeletal conditions.

The aim is to deliver high quality education and support clinical development. We are delighted that Miss Diament has agreed to offer her expertise for the evening!

There are still some spaces left so please get in touch to secure your spot.

Good morning everyone,

We've been quiet, because we have been busy! However, here is a rare post on one of our services.

Do you know that we provide pain relieving injections? Whilst there are a number of different agents clinicians can inject (with varying levels of evidence to support them), we provide the following two which we believe have the best supporting evidence behind them:

- Corticosteroid injections
- Hyularonic Acid injections

You can find out more about each at https://www.physiomac.com/our-services or alternatively you can contact us via the usual channels.

Please feel free to share, and as usual thanks for reading. We hope this post helps at least one person in pain!

Cheers,

Physiomac

A short reflection on the last year by practice our practice owner Andy.

Great to read that he is as motivated as ever to keep working after 30 plus years as a clinician!

It's hard to think that this time last year we were preparing to go into lockdown. It was strange that after 27 years of running a practice that, when lockdown started, it was the first time that I had had significant time off from treating patients. I swapped treating patients for gardening and doi...

We would like to wish a happy new year to all our patients, family, and friends!

Thank you to those who have used our services, not just in 2020, but since we started in 1993!

We hope our clinic continues to thrive not only in 2021 but beyond, and that we continue to help patients (new and old!) in pain return to their normal lives.

Please note we will be shut for a few days over the weekend, with our normal Covid hours starting back on Tuesday.

Best wishes,

Physiomac

Good morning!

Check out the services we currently offer at our Troon clinic including our injection service offered on a Friday!

As you will see in the below link we are in a position to offer sodium hyaluronate injections (under the brand name OSTENIL). Our most commonly injected site is the knee joint and it is most effective for grumbly arthritic knees, often giving greater than 6 months of significant pain relief. This is supported by various randomised control trials. There is also emerging research that it may be effective in other arthritic joints such as shoulders and thumbs, as well as some tendon related disorders.

OSTENIL works differently than traditional injectable agents known as corticosteroids. Whilst it is not as fast acting, nor is it particularly useful in a hot puffy swollen joint, it has a significantly longer lasting action without the known side-effects of a steroid.

Remember, not everyone can or indeed should be injected! The clinical skill is not in the delivery of the injection (this is relatively simple for us and of no more than a quick discomfort to our patients!), it is in selecting the right person to be injected- we genuinely decline more injections than we agree to.

So if you think you wish to discuss this further, or know of someone who may benefit, please get in touch on our page/website/phone asking to speak to Ryan!

Best wishes,

Physiomac

We will be open for business as of Monday 13th of July, in a limited capacity, with some adaptations for your safety.

It is important to stress that it is not business as usual. As such everyone will be offered a virtual consultation in the first instance (in keeping with our clinical guidance). However, we understand that patients may prefer a face-to-face appointment in the clinic and will offer this when appropriate/safe to do so.

For those attending the clinic, patient information can be found here:

https://www.physiomac.com/covid19information

We will also send an attachment with appointment confirmation/reminder emails that contains relevant information.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to helping where we can!

Best wishes,

Physiomac

We want you to feel safe when under our care. An update on our website as to how we are preparing to return our physiotherapy services.

Any questions then please ask away!

Thanks,

Ryan

At Physiomac, patient safety is our number one priority. We know that this is a concerning time for many, and we are aware that some patients may be hesitant over the safety of attending for a physiotherapy appointment. We hope the following information helps to re-assure that we are doing everythin...

We hope everyone has been staying safe and respecting the current guidance provided from the Scottish Government and medical experts. We also hope everyone is taking the time to exercise regularly and sensibly given the important impact it has on health and wellbeing!

To all our valued current patients, or those considering booking an appointment, we unfortunately will remain closed for business given the prevalence of Covid-19.
Whilst it is not enforced for health clinics to close, we feel it is ethically responsible to do so. Our first concern as always is the health of patients. We appreciate the challenges many people are facing in recent times, and fully sympathise that doing so whilst in pain only makes things harder.

In the background we have been diligently preparing for when it is appropriate to open. We have been ordering public health/UK approved PPE including gloves, masks, goggles, and aprons. We have an adequate supply of hand sanitising gel. There are hand washing facilities on site for both patient and clinician. We have been reviewing and updating our infection control policy to create new safety measures to minimise the risk of infection. We have also created a new policy for booking and attending appointments to ensure patient safety.

The model of care at Physiomac may look different. What will not be different is our desire to put our patients first, to listen them, and to keep them safe/ healthy in all regards.

We will keep you updated as the weeks progress.

Best wishes,

Ryan

Covid-19 Update (20/03/2020)

Although not official guidance, we have taken what we feel is the sensible decision to cease to see patients in clinic during the current pandemic. Come next week, we hope to have set up a digital service in align with what the public sector is currently doing. So please get in touch via phone/email.

Digital consultations will allow for safe, fast access, to one of our physiotherapists. This will allow us to listen to your problems, assess in a modified manner, and offer expert advice plus rehabilitation services. Consults will be offered at a reduced cost.

Stay safe everyone,

Physiomac

COVID-19 Statement
(19/03/2020)

The safety and wellbeing of our patients, patient's family, staff, and the wider community are at the forefront of our minds during these challenging times.

At the time of writing, we would like to reassure you that our practice will remain open albeit with some restrictions. This is in keeping with the latest government recommendations.

We wish to make the following information clear:

DO NOT ATTEND the practice if you have a persistent cough and or fever (a temperature >37.8C).
DO NOT ATTEND if you have come into contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19 and are within the 14 day isolation period.

Further guidance can be found at:

https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19

https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/coronavirus-covid-19-list-of-guidance

Furthermore, we would encourage those with a known underlying health condition that puts them at increased risk of contracting the virus, or those over the age of 70, regardless of their medical history, NOT to attend. For full guidance on this please read:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

We really hope everyone remains safe and is sensible in listening to government/medical advice in the coming weeks.

Best wishes,

Physiomac

Troon Strength and Fitness is a great, friendly gym in Troon. Stuart has created a fun environment and is always ready to help out with training advice. Check out this video they posted over the weekend and look out for a quick cameo of Ryan at the end hitting a pb of 180kg in his deadlift!

There are a lot of benefits to lifting weights for people of all ages. Weight training can not only improve sporting performance, but can also significantly reduce the risk of sporting injuries. It can also reduce the risk of falls, and help promote bone density to fight against the effects of osteoporosis, not to mention the fact it builds confidence in your body!

If you want advice if weight lifting is safe for you, or are looking for guidance as to injury prevention/rehabilitation then please get in touch on our page or on 01292 318777 and ask to speak to Ryan.

Best wishes,

Physiomac

We hope that everyone is staying safe in the snow but at the same time taking some time to be active and have some fun!

Our opening hours remain the same. However, we are entirely understanding if patients are unable to attend their appointments given the adverse conditions. This is particularly true if you are at an increased risk of a fall (elderly patients or those post-surgery). We would however kindly ask that you contact us if possible to let us know so that we can re-arrange a safer more suitable time.

Best wishes,

Physiomac
