Now hold it while I take a picture…but make it look easy 😅😬😬😬

Try occasionally adding a short pause into your strength exercises (For example the bottom position of a squat, or when the bar is at your chest on a bench press) 🏋️‍♂️

This can help to reduce the elastic recoil effect of you tendons (So your muscles have to work harder) 💪

Go lighter than your usual weights as it’s quite a bit harder!

Learning to listen to your body, is a key skill I teach in both my physiotherapy and fitness coaching work 👂

It’s a skill that I think is indispensable in preventing and rehabbing injury.

Our bodies are often great at telling us what they need us to do/ not do to stay healthy. But listening isn’t easy.

Here’s a few tips:

Step 1- Know that ‘no pain, no gain’ is almost never relevant in exercise for health. It’s ok to feel exhausted but not in pain during or after exercise.
(Even DOMS is usually a sign of a degree of overload) 🏋️‍♂️

Step 2- Be flexible. If you start to feel pain, it might be a sign to stop the exercise or do something different. Don’t worry if you already set up for a pb deadlift, stop ✋

Step 3- Know that pain may not always be only during exercise. If you often get pain hours or days after exercise, try to look closer at what may be causing it so you can adapt what you are doing 👌

Step 4- Don’t rush back from injury. It’s a tough one, especially if you rely on exercise to support your overall health. Take your time, try to be patient and responsive to how you feel physically 👨‍🎓

Hope that helps keep you safe or is a prompt to get you to stop aggravating an old injury.

The number one thing that puts people off workout out is not knowing what to do and feeling like everyone is watching!

The good news is they usually aren’t, and you can save yourself from gym anxiety by working with me for online coaching!

I provide weekly workouts based on your ability, equipment and goals, straight to an app on your phone.

All exercises have video guides to help you nail your form 💪

It’s also much cheaper than seeing a PT in person regularly and you can workout whenever suits you!
