🤗 Connection, comfort, and care for older people at Home 🤗

🗓️ As March comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the quiet, meaningful connections that make caring for older people in their own home so special.

🏡 At In Caring Hands (ICH), we support our service users with warmth, patience, and dignity. It’s the small moments, a shared smile, a familiar routine, a gentle conversation, that help someone feel secure, valued, and truly at ease.

👵 Every person we support has their own story, their own pace, and their own way of finding comfort. Our carers take time to notice the little things: the way someone likes their tea, the music that brings them calm, the reassurance they need when the day feels overwhelming.

💝 Home‑care is built on trust, and trust grows through kindness. It’s in the consistency of a familiar face, the respect shown in every interaction, and the understanding that feeling secure at home is one of the greatest comforts of all.

🌙 World Sleep Day: The Importance of sleep in older people care 🌙

🛌 World Sleep Day was on Friday 13th March, and at In Caring Hands (ICH), we understand the importance of good sleep for the older people we support.

😴 As people age, sleep patterns naturally change, but poor sleep can affect balance, memory, mood, and overall wellbeing. For many older people, feeling safe, comfortable, and supported makes all the difference.

🏡 Our carers help create calm routines, ensure safe and comfortable environments, and offer reassurance that helps promote better rest.

🗺️ Navigating changes in home care for older people 🗺️

↗️ At In Caring Hands (ICH), we know that for the older people we support in their own homes, even small changes can feel significant. Routines, surroundings, and familiar faces all play a huge part in feeling safe, comfortable, and confident.

👩‍🦳 A new carer arriving for the first time.
🚗 A different vehicle pulling up outside.
💡 A change in lighting or environment.
🛏️ New equipment being introduced.
🕒 A shift in their usual daily rhythm.

😧 These everyday changes may seem minor, but they can have a real emotional impact. They influence how settled, secure, and understood an older person feels in their own home.

😓 Our carers pay close attention to these moments. We notice the subtle cues: a pause, a look, a change in tone, that tell us how someone is experiencing the transition.

🤗 We offer reassurance, take things at a gentle pace, and create predictable routines that help each person feel supported. Change isn’t just about what’s happening; it’s about how someone is cared for through it.

🦻 Hearing Matters: Supporting Older People at Home 🦻

🔇 Hearing loss can affect confidence, communication, and connection — especially for older people living at home.

🤗 Yesterday, the 3rd of March, was World Hearing Day, a good time to think about how we help the older people we care for at In Caring Hands (ICH) with their hearing difficulties.

🥰 Our team of dedicated carers encourages hearing checks, helps with hearing aids, and creates environments where conversations feel easier and more comfortable.

🤗 Good hearing support helps people stay connected to the world around them and can help alleviate feelings of loneliness, confusion and stress.

🤔 If you or someone you know would benefit from warm, person‑centred support at home, we’re here for new service users in and around St Austell in Cornwall.

👂World Hearing Day: Listening Beyond Words at ICH 👂

🤗 For the young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), hearing is more than simply detecting sounds – it is a vital means of forming connections, providing comfort, and enabling communication.

🦻 The 3rd of March is World Hearing Day and at In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, we will take the opportunity to recognise and consider the unique ways in which our service users experience the world through sound, both at our respite bungalow and day centre.

🎶 Whether it’s with gentle music, playing instruments, or simply the reassuring tones of familiar voices, these sensory experiences play an essential role in building trust and promoting emotional wellbeing.

🥰 Our dedicated team of trained carers work to create a calm and happy environment, ensuring that every sound has the potential to become a meaningful and positive moment for those we support.

👉 If you are a compassionate, thoughtful, UK-based carer seeking to make a real difference, we are actively recruiting and invite you to learn more about joining the ICH family: https://www.in-caring-hands.co.uk/learning-disability-services/

🥰 Connection, compassion and understanding at the Heart of Care 🥰

🗓️ As February comes to a close, here at In Caring Hands (ICH), we’re reflecting on the moments of connection that make the care we provide truly meaningful.

🫶 Building strong connections sits at the heart of excellent care for older people. It protects their health, strengthens their identity, and preserves their sense of belonging at a stage of life when many other forms of connection naturally start to diminish.

🫴 When you strip everything else away - medication, equipment, routines - what remains is the human need to feel seen, valued, and part of something. That’s why connection isn’t a “nice extra” in older‑person care; it’s a core therapeutic intervention.

💝 At In Caring Hands, we provide care with a heart to older people in their own homes. We greatly value the bonds we build and the stories they share. We value the connection.

🤗 Kindness in every moment at ICH 🤗

🫴 Kindness doesn’t need to be a grand gesture to be meaningful, and at In Caring Hands (ICH), we know it’s the little things that often mean the most to those we care for.

🍵 During Random Acts of Kindness Week, which runs from the 12th to the 18th of February, our carers aim to focus even more on the small things that mean so much — giving a warm cup of tea, a shared laugh, a moment of reassurance, or simply being there when someone needs company.

🥰 These simple things make life brighter for the older people we support in their own homes. Because kindness is powerful, and it’s at the heart of everything we do.

🦢 Finding Joy in the Everyday: Big Garden Birdwatch 🦢

🐦 The Big Garden Birdwatch organised by the RSPB runs from the 26th to the 28th of January this year. To some it is more than just a nature event — it’s a moment of connection. For many older people, watching birds brings comfort, routine, and a sense of companionship.

🍵 Here at In Caring Hands in St Austell, Cornwall, we care of older people in the comfort of their own homes. Our carers often enjoy special moments alongside the people we support. Together they enjoy looking for particular species of birds, noticing feather colours, listening to birdsong, or simply sharing a peaceful pause in the day accompanied by a warming cup of tea or coffee.

🥰 Nature has a way of lifting the spirit, one flutter at a time.
