Truro BID

Truro BID Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.

Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local authorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:

∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).

∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.

∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.

∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.

∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.

∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.

∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

As well as experiencing the city brimming with cherished cars, visitors will be able to browse automobilia and autojumbles stalls and enjoy live music.

The Truro Classic Car Show will take place from 10.30am until 3.30pm on Sunday 2 August across Truro City Centre. The event is both free to attend and to exhibit vehicles.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹'𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹

Truro businesses, let your customers know that Truro City Council's Easter Trail takes place throughout the Easter holidays across two locations this year.

Running from Friday 3 April (Good Friday) to Sunday 19 April, the free, self-led trail invites residents and visitors to explore Victoria Gardens and, new for this year, Boscawen Park by following clues to find hidden letters which uncover a special Easter phrase.

The Victoria Gardens Easter Trail features hidden bunnies, while the Boscawen Park Easter Trail will use hidden signs with letters to spell out a special Easter phrase.

How to take part
Participants can collect a clue and entry sheet from one of the following locations:
• Café in the Park (Boscawen Park Easter Trail)
• Pollen (Victoria Gardens Easter Trail)
• Truro Community Library (Pydar Street)
• Truro Visitor Information Centre (Boscawen Street)

Then, simply follow the clues around the park or gardens, find the hidden signs and record the letters on the entry sheet. Once completed, return your sheet to one of the collection points to receive a prize and be entered into the grand prize draw.

All entries must be submitted by Sunday 19 April. The activity is free to take part in and can be completed at any time during the opening hours of Pollen/Café in the Park. For updates, follow Truro City Council on Facebook or see: www.visittruro.org.uk

We will be organising and funding Children's Day, which takes place across the city on Saturday 20 June.

There will be family-friendly activities on Lemon Quay including mountain bike stunt shows, have-a-go at circus skills, dance performance and stalls, along with other activity in Pydar St.

As communicated last week, relevant Truro Businesses are encouraged to join in with Children's Day and there are a couple of ways to take part:

- Have an in-store activity or offer in-store. This could be anything from a colouring or craft competition, to offers and promotions aimed at children and their parents/carers.

- Have a FREE stall on Lemon Quay featuring a family-friendly activity, which also showcases your business. We’re open to ideas although this could be an art-activity, colouring table, science fun or game. The stalls are in gazebos where you would have a 3m by 1.5m space. Set up is from 8am, ready for 9am and pack down is a 4pm.

Children's Day is being kindly sponsored by Coodes Solicitors. To take part in Children’s Day, or to find out more, email us by Friday 17 April on: lindsey.craik@trurobid.co.uk

Truro City Council has launched the publication of its 2026-2030 Strategy, setting out the Council’s key objectives and a clear vision for the city over the next five years.

The Strategy outlines priorities including supporting communities, protecting green spaces, improving connectivity, strengthening the city centre economy, investing in buildings and heritage, and ensuring transparent and responsible governance.

The objectives have been shaped by feedback from Truro City Council's 2025 Resident Survey, ensuring that the Council’s plans reflect the priorities and needs of the local community.

Printed copies of the Strategy can be picked up from Truro Community Library, Visit Truro Visitor Information Centre on Boscawen Street, and Café in the Park at Boscawen Park.

A digital version of the Strategy is also available on Truro City Council’s website: https://truro.gov.uk/

As you maybe aware, we will stop using the DISC Crime Reporting Tool on 31 March, and hopefully during April we will switch to an alternative called UKPAC (UK Partners Against Crime).

Devon and Cornwall Police are supporting this move as UKPAC is more aligned with the internal Police Crime Systems and therefore easier for the police to retrieve evidence. Hopefully the end result will be more prosecutions of high street crime.

We will update businesses more on the move to UKPAC hopefully next month. For more information see the UKPAC webpage: https://uk-pac.com/

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗽 - 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂!

In association with Newham BID, we organised the ninth City Clean Up event which took place last Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March.

Truro BID and Newham BID, along with several businesses, organisations, community groups and local volunteers all worked together to clean, tidy and litter pick.

Truro City Council’s Countryside Rangers, Damien Richards, Community Development Officer at the city council, and Local volunteer community leader Paul Caruana helped getting local community groups on board for the clean-up.

Friday started with a litter pick along Tregolls Road, followed by cable tie cutting, sticker removal and sign washing in the city centre. There was another litter pick in the afternoon at Newham.

Some of the Truro businesses and organisations involved included: Ask, Barclays, CLEAR, Cornwall Council, Francis Clark, LiveWest and Natwest. Businesses and organisations from Newham that took part included Biffa, Kartha Commercial Cleaning, MJ Medical, RRL and St Petroc’s.

On Saturday, the Friends of Daubuz Moor focused on litter removal in Daubuz Moor.

Elsewhere in Truro, the City Life Church and Trelander and St. Clements Community Association arranged a litter pick in Trelander, and the Kenwyn Community Association arranged a litter pick in their local area, which included Kenwyn Church Road to Rosedale.

In Truro City Centre, a team of volunteers focused on further sign washing and sticker removal, which included Kartha Commercial Cleaning, MP Jayne Kirkham, Truro in Bloom Volunteers and other residents: including Bryan Skinner, Nick James, Rich Estlick and Alan Jones.

A total of 155 bags of rubbish were collected during the two-day City Clean Up event, and over 80 people took part.

Fifteen ‘lost’ road signs and cones were found and returned to the Cormac depot. Some of the larger and usual items included a bike, car parts, a pushchair, and a kitchen sink!

A big thank you to everyone who took part!
