Some useful information regarding Meningitis

*Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.*

Symptoms of meningitis develop suddenly and can include:
- a high temperature (fever)
- being sick
- a headache
- a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (but a rash will not always develop)
- a stiff neck
- a dislike of bright lights
- drowsiness or unresponsiveness
- seizures (fits)

These symptoms can appear in any order. *You do not always get all the symptoms.*

Call 999 for an ambulance or go to your nearest A&E immediately if you think you or someone you look after could have meningitis or sepsis.

Trust your instincts and do not wait for all the symptoms to appear or until a rash develops.

*Someone with meningitis or sepsis can get a lot worse very quickly.*

The UK Health Security Agency has written a great blog explaining more here:

And you can check out the NHS website for more.

**************PATIENT INFORMATION*******************

Dear Patients,

I wanted to take a moment to personally reassure you following some concerns raised about our recent post regarding AI. My intention was never to worry anyone, and I’m sorry if it came across that way.

We will soon be using Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) to support our clinicians during appointments. This technology simply listens in the background to the conversation between you and your healthcare professional. It does not interrupt, influence, or change your appointment at any time.

AVT creates a draft summary of what was discussed. Your clinician then carefully reviews, edits, and approves it. The aim is to allow them to give you their full attention during your appointment, while reducing the amount of admin work afterwards.

**How your information is protected**

I want to be absolutely clear: Your privacy is protected throughout.

We use Lexacom, the only AI assistant with Patient Shield®, which means that any personally identifiable information is automatically **redacted before anything is processed by the AI**.

This ensures:

* Your identifiable data is *never* passed to the AI
* Only anonymised text is used to generate draft notes
* Your clinician remains fully in control of everything that is recorded

After your appointment, your healthcare professional will:

1. Review the draft notes
2. Make any necessary edits
3. Approve the final version

Further information

If you would like to know more, you can find our **AI Privacy Policy** here:

You can also read more about the technology on our website:

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your comfort and confidence in your care will always come first.

Kind regards,
Mrs T King, Practice Manager

⚠️ Storm Goretti – Service Update: Friday 9 January: 10am

⚡️Some GP practices and district nursing teams are impacted by power outages.

Most disruption is currently in west Cornwall, including the Lizard and Roseland areas. Current practices that we are aware of with no power are: Bodriggy, Marazion, Middleway, Mullion, Perranporth, Praze, Probus, St Agnes, St Keverne and Carnon Downs.

⏰Some clinics may be running late, with staff impacted by travel disruption - thank you for your patience.

📆If you have an NHS appointment today:
• Due to some power outages, some GP surgeries and services may not be able to access their systems. Where possible, patients will be contacted if appointments need to be cancelled or rearranged.
• If you feel it is unsafe to travel, or you are unable to attend, please contact the service in the usual way to cancel or rearrange when you are able to do so.

👩‍🔬If you need care, the NHS is still here for you:
• GP practices and pharmacies: some locations may be impacted by loss of power, so please check before travelling
• Minor Injury Units and Urgent Treatment Centres: Check opening and live waiting times online before you travel: Urgent care waiting times | Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
• NHS 111: use 111 online or call 111 for urgent health advice
• 999: always call in a life- or limb-threatening emergency

👏Our sincere thanks to NHS and community colleagues who have stayed on beyond shifts last night, through the night and this morning to support patients and essential services.

Thank you for your patience and kindness to NHS staff during this disruption 💚
