We are sharing the following information for parents, carers and young people in Cornwall and Devon who are concerned about meningitis after the outbreak in Kent.

Our Cornwall and Devon School Age Immunisation Service provides the MenACWY vaccine to school-aged children across Devon and Cornwall. The MenACWY vaccine helps protect against meningococcal groups A, C, W and Y, but it does not protect against meningitis B. The MenB vaccine is a separate vaccine that has been routinely offered to babies since 2015, and is not part of the school-aged immunisation programme.

Although the overall risk to people outside the Kent area remains low, meningitis can become serious very quickly, so it is important to know the symptoms and act fast if someone is unwell, if you'd like to read the latest NHS and UKHSA advice on the meningitis B outbreak, it can be found here:
https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2026/03/18/meningitis-b-outbreak-what-you-need-to-know/

If you think someone may have meningitis, call 999 or go to A&E immediately. If you are unsure, please contact NHS 111 for advice or ask your GP. If you'd like advice about MenB vaccination you can speak to your GP, or pharmacist.

If your child or young person might have missed their MenACWY vaccine and you'd like advice, don't worry - please email Kernow Health's local immunisation teams (emails below) and we will check this for you and offer you an appointment.

Great to welcome Katie and Suz from Heidi to our main office in Truro.

During their visit, they met with our Head of Digital, John, and spoke with several of our clinicians who use Heidi every day. The visit gave them the opportunity to gather valuable stakeholder feedback and see first hand how Heidi is being used across our services.

Heidi is an AI digital transcription tool that supports our clinicians by assisting with note taking during telephone consultation. By reducing administrative time and cognitive load, it helps our teams focus more on delivering care.

Katie and Suz also shared new developments within Heidi, including resources to help inform clinicians on patient pathways.

It was a great opportunity to share how Kernow Health is integrating innovative digital tools into our services to support both clinicians and patients.
