For our Mad Hatter's Tea Party, we wanted to give a dining experience like no other.

We had so much fun decorating and filling the home with magic, and we made sure no sweet treats were left uneaten.

How is it already November?!

Before we get ready for Christmas, we're still enjoying the autumnal celebrations, especially with Bonfire Night just round the corner.

Here's some November events coming up around Kent 👇

🎆 1st - 2nd November: Bonfire Night Fireworks Displays - although bonfire night is on the 5th, many displays are starting this weekend, with fireworks, bonfires, food stalls, and entertainment.
📍 Leeds Castle, Dunorlan Park, Tonbridge Racecourse

🌀 9th November: Tunbridge Wells Wellness Fair - a celebration of community, connection, and holistic living.
📍 Salomons Estate, Tunbridge Wells

🎄28th November: Christmas Wreath Workshop - perfect for creating your own festive wreath. Suitable for beginners, and all materials and refreshments are provided.
📍 Scott's Trust, Tonbridge

🤠 29th November: Indoor Country Music Festival - filled with country music, line dancing, and wild west decor!

Today is World Stroke Day, an important day for raising awareness about stroke 🧠

This is something close to us and our clients' lives, and we've seen firsthand the importance of recognising the signs of stroke.

Remember, for stroke, you need to act FAST:

F - Face - check if one side of the face has drooped
A - Arm - check if one arm is weak or numb
S - Speech - check if speech is slurred
T - Time - if these symptoms are present, it's time to call 999

Aside from this, it's also a day for advocating for better care and support for stroke survivors, as well as their caregivers.

If you're looking for extra support, guidance, or just want to chat to a friendly face, please do get in touch.

Our residents have been busy getting ready for Halloween, decorating some spooky biscuits and stretching their creativity with a spot of colouring in 🎃

While it's often thought of as an American holiday, Halloween actually originated from the ancient Celtic festival Samhain...

Samhain marks the end of summer and the harvest, and is believed to be a time when the boundary between the living and the dead blurs. To ward off spirits, Celts lit bonfires and wore costumes 👻

So you can see how over the centuries, it's evolved into the event we know today, with decorations and frightfully good treats!

We're writing this with a heavy heart after saying goodbye to one of our beautiful residents, Sylvia.

She would have turned 100 today. She'd been a part of our Birchwood family for many years, and our home doesn't feel the same without her.

We're so grateful that we got to have the privilege of knowing Sylvia. She brought a lot of life, love, and laughter to our residents and our team, and she will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones. May she rest in peace 🕊️

We have another special birthday this month for Birchwood House - happy birthday for the 29th, Tori! 🎉

For those who don't know, Tori is our amazing team leader, and her hard work doesn't go unnoticed.

She goes above and beyond in making sure our residents feel safe and supported, and she's always free for a cup of tea and a chat!

We hope you have an amazing day Tori, thanks for all that you do! 💚

Fun fact: you are actually more likely to see deer in the autumn because it is their 'rut'. This is where deer are more vocal and active, as males compete for females 🦌

Across our beautiful grounds, we're often visited by our deer friends, and we love being surrounded by nature and wildlife.

It gives our residents the chance to feel closer to the world around them - whether that's a stroll through the gardens, or a cosy night in the conservatory.

Either way, a deer is always sure to come and say hi!
