Remembrance Day at The Hollies Rest Home is more than an annual observance; it is a deeply personal and poignant occasion that provides a meaningful connection to history to its residents. Far from a mere tradition, the day is carefully curated to offer moments of reflections and a heartfelt tribute to those who served and sacrificed for the freedoms enjoyed today.
The preparation for the day begins the preceding week , with the residents engaging in creative and therapeutic activities. A central focus is the communal crafting of poppies, buntings using various materials like tissue paper , felt paper and colouring paints . These hands on project not only serve as a visual, collective tribute but also stimulates conversation and reminiscence as residents share their stories and memories sparked by the process .
On Remembrance Day itself ,the atmosphere at The Hollies is one of quiet dignity and shared purpose .
Ultimately , the celebration of Remembrance Day at the Hollies is a sensitive and inclusive event . By blending formal acts of Remembrance with creative and social activities , the home ensures that every resident can engage in away that feels meaningful and personal, honouring the profound sacrifices of the past while fostering a strong sense of community in the present .

The residents loved getting together this morning to have tea and cake.

There was lots of chatting, story telling and laughter.

As they all loved being together so much this morning they all decided they’d like to have their lunch together this afternoon.

It’s always good to make time to get together with your friends and family to catch up and spend time together ❤️
