There is no cure for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but there are treatments & support available to help slow down the changes in your vision & help you have the best equality of life. The type of treatment depends on the stage and the type of AMD you have; wet or dry.

๐–๐ž๐ญ ๐€๐Œ๐ƒ treatments include:
- injections of medicine (anti-VEGF) given directly into the eyes
- light treatment to destroy the blood vessels that cause wet AMD.

๐ƒ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐€๐Œ๐ƒ - there are currently no treatment for dry AMD. You can find support and help to you live with AMD, including help with low vision and lifestyle changes. Low vision devices are designed to improve visual performance. They can be optical or optical & electronic such as:

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the middle part of your vision, not the edges. You can get it in 1 or both eyes. Symptoms include:
- seeing straight lines as wavy or crooked
- being sensitive to bright light
- seeing flickering or flashing lights
- seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)
AMD is not painful, but can make things like reading, watching TV, driving and recognising faces difficult.

Regular eye examinations are key to identifying AMD. You should also know your families eye health history. AMD has a strong hereditary link. If you have a parent or sibling with AMD, you are 3-4 times more likely to develop AMD yourself. Any concerns, speak to us.
