A few thoughts on Post Natal Depression.
There are a number of conditions which, in my experience, respond well to craniosacral therapy, one of which is post natal depression. I won't call it the baby blues because that seems to minimise how horrendous it can be - from feeling downright depressed to having the feeling that you're not bonding with your baby. It is my belief that this condition is mainly physical. The womb is damaged in some way during birth and never seems to recover properly. This seems then to affect the whole hormonal system and result in post natal depression in all its facets. I actually believe that the womb serves as one of the most important gland sites in the female body. You mess that up and everything is messed up. This isn't something that you can can talk your way out of in my opinion - it's a physical thing. I have found that if you treat the womb then the post natal depression either vanishes or decreases dramatically - life gets "a little easier" again.
So you'd think that I would be inundated with women suffering from post natal depression - at the very least due to my confidence in my ability to treat it quite easily. This, however, is not the case. It seems to me that women don't often want to admit that they are suffering from post natal depression. Facebook usually shows happy mothers with happy babies and to admit that this is not the case for some women must be very difficult indeed. In nineteen years of practice I can probably count on one hand the women who have come to me specifically about post natal depression. Usually I have to point out to women that their womb seems a little tight and ask them about their experiences after giving birth. It seems such a shame to me that so many people are suffering so badly, when it may not be necessary.
No conclusion - just a few thoughts.
