Bee Heard

Bee Heard Bee Heard is a mental health charity based in Coleraine, that offers support to adults. We were set up and trained through Mind Yourself, Foyle Advocates.

Bee Heard was founded in 2014, opening our doors on the 18th of November 2014. We have been open since then two days a week although recently we have increased this to three days. Our service is on a drop in, free and confidential basis. We have tried to grow steadily, offering a safe place for people to talk about their mental health. We are committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness through being open about our own experience and using it to relate to those who use our services. We are a registered charity who gets by mainly due to the support of the public through various fundraising events. All Volunteers and Committee Members have personal experience of Mental Illness and use this to connect with people and be able to empathize with people. We have also started a creative arts group entitled Bee Creative which aims to give people a place where people can express their thoughts and emotions in a safe environment.

β„Ή Winter Fuel Payment Update β„Ή

Today the Minister for Communities announced a one-off Β£100 payment will be given to those who have been affected by the winter fuel payment cuts.

You will not need to apply for this payment and it is expected all payments will be received by March 2025.

I am glad to see there will be some support for those who will be affected by the planned cuts. However, it is concerning the payment is significantly less than what many typically received to help with fuel costs.

If you or someone you know is concerned about affording fuel this winter please feel free to reach out to my office or PM me to discuss what help is available.

World Mental Health Day is an annual awareness day observed every 10th October. It’s the World’s Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) initiative with the objectives to raise awareness of mental health matters around the world, to mobilize efforts in support of mental health, and to reduce stigma. Every year WFMH publish a theme which is voted for by stakeholders of the founding organisation.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2024 is β€œIt is time to prioritise mental health in the workplaceβ€œ.
The Mental Heath UK website states –

As a part of observing World Mental Health Day this year, it is crucial to shine a light on one of the most pressing issues affecting modern workplaces: burnout. In our fast-paced world, more employees are experiencing chronic stress that leads to burnout.

Burnout doesn’t happen overnight. It’s gradual and can take hold before you’re truly aware of it. It doesn’t just affect individual wellbeing; it has far-reaching consequences for organisations too.

We’re calling for everyone to take shared responsibility for workplace mental health. From employers to employees, executives to managers, we must unite in educating ourselves and one another to recognise the signs of poor mental health and provide mutual support so that we can create healthier, more resilient workplaces where mental wellbeing is a priority for all.

By addressing workplace burnout on this World Mental Health Day, we can create a more productive, engaged, and fulfilled workforce. A mentally healthy workplace is a thriving workplace. Let’s work together to combat poor mental health and burnout and foster environments where everyone can flourish.
