In the fifth seminar, one of the topics explored is ignitions — a crucial concept in prenatal and birth-related work. Craniosacral therapists learn how to recognize and work with these profound imprints.

🌀 Ignitions – Embodied Imprints from the Beginning of Life. Throughout the human body, several key ignitions occur — initiatory moments that activate our core life functions. These moments shape not only our biology but also our deep sense of self. Some examples include:

🔹 Ignition in the third ventricle of the brain – Here, the first movement and rhythmic intelligence of the embryo are activated. It marks the beginning of embodiment and structural formation.
🔹 Ignition with the first heartbeat – The heart’s rhythm begins organizing blood flow and brings deeper layers of perceived safety and connection.
🔹 Umbilical ignition at birth – The flow through the umbilical cord ends, and the baby’s own circulation is activated.
🔹 Pulmonary ignition – The first breath opens the body to a new rhythm of life outside the womb.

These moments often occur under dramatic circumstances — rapid birth, medical interventions, separation from the mother, or respiratory stimulation. Such experiences can leave imprints in the body in the form of tension, difficulties with regulation, feelings of disconnection, or a sense of deep inner pressure.

💆‍♀️ Biodynamic craniosacral therapy allows these imprints to be gently and safely revisited. By listening to the body's rhythms and creating a supportive field, the body can rediscover its own pathway toward integration. The ignition sites — the third ventricle, heart, umbilicus, and lungs — may reopen in their own natural rhythm, without pressure, in harmony with what is currently possible.

The cranial nerves are:

I. Olfactory nerve
II. Optic nerve
III. Oculomotor nerve
IV. Trochlear nerve
V. Trigeminal nerve
VI. Abducens nerve

Wonderful webinar yesterday with Dr. Stephen Porges on 'The Significance of Polyvagal Theory for Touch and Somatic Therapies', interviewed by Michael Kern and Giselle Genillard. The webinar was full of golden nuggets and pearls of wisdom! Here are just a few:
- Polyvagal theory gives you a justification to listen to your body.
- Your body is always signalling you what it’s doing.
- Our bodies really don’t like assessments.
- Being in a state of threat is inside the person’s body.
- Our nervous systems are asking, “Can we create short periods of predictability to allow our bodies to calm down?"
- Trusting relationships are about predictability.
- The body has to become accessible.
- Co-regulation is a nutrient.
- Sociality is a very potent neural regulator.
- We are creating a symmetrical, reciprocal and synchronous reading of cues with each other."
