After todayβs Budget announcement, many young farmers might be feeling disappointed, especially with only a small change made to the rules for inheritance tax for farm businesses.
With protests from farmers in London today and ongoing campaigning from farming organisations, NFYFC's Chair of Council James Nixey said:
"The National Federation of Young Farmersβ Clubs (NFYFC) is committed to ensuring the Government fully understands the impact of its decisions on agricultural and rural issues, particularly on our members and young people involved in farming.
The next generation will not only play an active part in farming and land management but are also the people society will rely on to produce high quality food, help mitigate the effects of climate change, continue to enhance the environment and provide local, rural employment. Not forgetting that all-important intergenerational network thatβs so essential for rural communities.
If the Government wants the next generation to invest in farms and contribute to enhanced food security, there needs to be confidence for investment into businesses. If these individuals cannot see a prosperous future in UK agriculture, then they will understandably seek other opportunities."
