Whilst The Modernisme Apothecary has a wider meaning, part of this new adventure of studying herbalism and Ayurveda has led to me having an actual apothecary; and this Saturday I’ll be showcasing some of my favourite creations at a local mercado navideño 🎄 I’m super excited to be sharing this! Both of our kitchens this week have been taken over by a plethora of the best ingredients. If not grown in our own or friends gardens, all of my purchased ingredients are organic. I’m currently mostly using trusted brands from the UK but have already started sourcing locally to be more sustainable and support local businesses 🌱🪴🌿 And as our own garden gets going I’ll be concentrating on growing as much as I can myself.

Hello again 💚

It’s been a while, in fact over a year and a half since I posted here 😳 Quite a lot has changed in that time, in the best way, and I’m ready to start sharing again. The last 18 months or so have been a bit of a whirlwind; remember the dream to live in Catalonia permanently? Well it’s happened, finally! I won’t pretend it’s been all plain sailing, but we’re settled, getting used to our new life, and I’m ready to open the doors here again, under a new name: The Modernisme Apothecary.

‘Modernisme’ as a whole is a broader project for us (more on that another time), but the Apothecary element is something new for me. Whilst my passion for plants has led to training in Herbalism while I’ve been away from here, this isn’t simply an apothecary in the traditional sense. Think of it more as a metaphorical cupboard; a place where I keep all the practices, rituals and teachings that support my own health, healing and longevity…..Herbalism and Mediterranean living. Yoga and meditation. Ayurveda. Massage and Reiki. Forest therapy. Skincare. And the quiet, everyday moments that tie it all together.

I’ll be sharing the things that genuinely help me live more calmly, slowly and intentionally here in our new space in Catalonia 💛❤️

Feeling full of love tonight after delivering my first retreat day ‘A Day to Nurture and Nourish’, at the most beautiful venue with a very special bunch of ladies. Went for a wander down the garden today to see if Minky’s tree has started to spring new life yet, and look at those precious little blossom buds already 🌸 Minky Moo, the OG, the girl who made me fall head over heels with staffies, my beautiful girl. We brought this tree with us when we moved to Pond Cottage and spread some of her ashes around it’s roots. She also has her very own olive tree and space at the farm in Spain. Oh how she would’ve loved it there! Each spring her tree brings new life, and every time I sit here I’m grateful for her love and everything she taught me. And I’d like to think that Fifi, and Sasha before her, are also grateful of the mark Minky left, ensuring that we would forever and always have a staffy girl in our lives ❤️❤️❤️

10 years. It’s felt big today. The past weeks have been heavy. 10 whole years since the most important man in my world left this life. The irony that it’s been him, my Dad, who I’ve craved talking to the most when I’ve been struggling recently, wondering why this upcoming anniversary has felt so much heavier than others, slowly creeping up on me like a huge weight. 10 is a big number right? Yet it all still feels fresh in some ways, but at the same time it feels like a lifetime since we had a 4 o’clock coffee (with a little something in it!). I think it’s also big because January 2014 was the start of what turned out to be the biggest year of lessons and transformation, and reflecting back isn’t just about losing my Dad, it’s about what that became a catalyst for. I’m not gonna lie, the full moon this week hasn’t helped (we were similar in so many ways but oh how he’d laugh at that!). I’ve tried all day not to dwell, yet here I am at 2am still trying. I miss him. Every. Single. Day. And I wish so much he could’ve seen how life changed for me. I know he’s still around sometimes, and I’d like to think he’s proud, but what I wouldn’t do for just one more coffee ###

This one 🩷 Okay, so she can’t cook for me or make a hot drink, but the emotional support she gives without knowing is nothing short of phenomenal. Loves a quiet day when I need it, also loves a good walk when I want one. The cuddles are intense 😊 Between her and the awesome Mr YYG, I’d say I’m pretty lucky with my team 🙏 ❤️
