November is Mouth Cancer Awareness month

During your check up appointments, your dentist will check all the soft tissues in your mouth for any changes.

Be aware of any changes and report them to your dentist.

•Ulcers or sore spots that aren't healing.
•White or dark patches, especially in the floor of your mouth
•Tenderness or lumps in the neck or under the jaw line.

Be mouth aware.

Today is World Menopause Day, and the theme this year is health and lifestyle choices.

Menopause and Peri Menopause can impact oral health in many ways due to hormonal changes and fluctuations.

1 in 3 women report a drier mouth. Salivary function is very important to prevent tooth decay, tissue repair, and antimicrobial activity.

Many women experience 'burning mouth' syndrome, where the tongue or lips constantly have a burning sensation.

Gum recession, bleeding gums, and increased sensitivity can also be experienced. Increased bone loss can be evident also.

Regular dental checkups ups and hygiene visits are an essential part of maintaining oral health during and after this transitional time in your life, to stay dentally fit.

Our colouring competition is now on!

Fun fact Friday.

As we approach Halloween, we thought this hat offers both an interesting but a little bit gory fact.

This hat has 88 decayed teeth stitched onto it and was worn by a 'travelling tooth puller' in the 1820s in London.
In the days before anaesthetic, this cap was worn to represent the wearers' magical skills at removing your throbbing, abcessed tooth without pain or infection......which never happened.

Thank goodness dentistry has moved on.
