This is a post about effects of prescription medication. Many patients I see have been taking tablets for decades unaware of some of the downsides which can affect their health and alot of elderly patients will just put it down to old age and so do their Doctors. Here we go..

Omeprazole for acid reflux a PPI can reduce Iron stores ( anaemia ) calcium ( bone loss ) Magnesium aching muscles, insomnia, Vit C Vit B12 anaemia neuritis neuropathy.

Statins leg cramps, muscle weakness, short of breath, memory. Take Co Enzyme Q 10 to repair.

Diurectics reduced sodium and potassium, heart arrythmia, lethargy, nausea.

Metformin vit B 12 deficiency

Steroids Calcium and vit D reduced absorption

Antibiotics reduced sodium, potassium vit c and zinc. Reduced absorbtion leaky gut syndrome..

Please note am not decrying medication more to educate and inform.. and it is why I always take a thorough medical history with all my patients.

Still too hot. Seeing lots of athletes foot creating fissuring interdigitally risk of infection especially diabetics and people with a compromised immune sytem, which can be extremely painful. Make sure you dry between your toes thoroughly and use lamisil or any shop bought anti fungal cream. Fungus love heat and moisture and sugar!! Our western diet is full of hidden sugars mostly in any carb food...Take probiotics or yakult great for keeping fungus at bay and keeping your immune system in good order.

Well in this heat it is difficult to remain cool. My surgery has air conditioning as does the whole building so it is not a problem if you wish to come and cool down before your appointment. There is seating outside my room and plenty to read. However we do not have toilet facilities for the general public because of health and safety.

Hello.. Inclement weather this time of year hopefully we are on the up at last. Have been working at my practice now for 32 years, some feat...sorry. Got me thinking about foot pain and how so many people put up with it until they can barely walk.!

There are many reasons too many to mention here. However apart from the obvious physical reasons, corns, callous, ingrowing toenails, ill fitting footwear to name but a few. There are other medical reasons for foot pain. Vitamin D and B deficiency. Undiagnosed diabetes, arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, Magnesium deficiency, osteoporosis, Parkinsons etc.

Many life changing events bereavement, divorce, stress at work etc can lower the immune system causing verrucas.

The feet are not an isolated part of your body but an integral part. We as Podiatrists are trained in diagnosis so never ignore them! They can tell you so many things about your overall health they might just save your life...
