Yes he is dead...

But what better testimonial to share in March than the words of the only master teacher.

The man who invented Pilates, or as he called it Contrology (this name makes more sense if you practice Pilates the way it was intended...seriously its tougher).

For those of you who may not know Joseph Pilates (seen here at 57 years old) was the man who started it all...I believe the original Universal Reformer patent turns 100 this year.

Again for those at back...the Reformer is nothing new.

The sea called me back home to Cornwall in 2022, it is my home and has always had a profound impact on how I explore, observe and understand movement.

That is why the studio exists.

We are a professional movement centre for performance longevity.

Did you know...

The mat part of Pilates is not supposed to be taught on thin yoga mats.

That is why we ensure our classes use these raised mats with high grade orthopaedic foam.

Much more comfortable, sturdy and supportive than a thin mat on the floor.

If you are doing Pilates and you are using mats. Use a double thickness if they are thin or get a minimum 10mm mat to use at home...

Your spine will thank you rolling and articulating in comfort.

All our equipment is industry leading and if the highest quality you will find - think the Aston Martin of the Pilates industry!

Olympic legs ...without the ice rink!

I love watching the Olympics and over the years I've been very lucky to work with athletes competing for their country in hockey, football and equestrian eventing at this level. Watching the speed skating inspired this today. 

This single leg skater exercise on the Reformer trains a similar lateral push pattern used in speed skating.

Many athletes use Pilates to support their training, but here’s the good news....you don’t need to be chasing a medal or be a speed skater! 

This is the strength that protects your hips when you walk downhill for a coffee with friends in Padstow.

Develops balance and coordination for standing on your surfboard at Watergate or paddleboarding on the camel estuary.

It stabilises your pelvis when you step off a curb in Wadebridge or step to the side on the coast path at Trevone to let someone go by.

It gets your glutes excited about movement giving you better speed if you like running on across Harlyn beach.

Athletic training isn’t just for athletes. It's practical for everyday life and essential to ensure we can still enjoy our beloved Cornwall in our old age!

You'll find this particular exercise taught with the precision it needs to feel EVERY MOMENT - my bum is certainly feeling that good fire today!

In Pilates the apparatus allows us to move the body in one session in all ways it can.

It shows you where you need more control as well as which side of your body is less enthusiastic about movement.

The Pilates method is a full system to get you moving well.

Sick of the pain?

For years studio owner has been the Pilates and biomechanics movement specialist recommended by medical professionals.

Stacy even had an online programme that physios subscribed to which they used to show their clients so they could see exactly how to do certain exercises. Not just pdf sheet!

Our studio owner is qualified and insured to work with a huge range of injuries and pathologies. Stacy is an Associate member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. She is highly respected amongst the medical professional and bodywork practitioner community across Cornwall and Devon.

So if you have a joint, bone or neurological condition like hip/knee replacement, pelvic floor dysfunction shoulder injuries, scoliosis, hypermobility/hEds, osteoporosis, parkinsonism, stroke, back pain etc. We are the studio for you.

We can also work with you during and after pregnancy.

Initially that might require 1:1 sessions but we will wherever possible get you in a group class.

Do you have time?

It's really tough to find the time for ourselves, isn't it.

We're always busy caring for others, running around after the kids or sorting out the pets.

Sometimes work takes over and before we know it we are exhausted trying to fit everything in.

In 2022 a published research paper found that by adding 10 minutes of exercise a day approximately 110000 early deaths a year could be prevented in the US in populations aged 40-85 yrs old.

Adding 20-30 minutes each day could do even more!

Exercise can significantly increase your mobility, reduce pain and improve our mental health. It also increases our stamina and capacity to focus.
