What is your period like? Do you get a lot of pain? Enough to make your day stop? Or do you bleed so heavily that you are left exhausted and drained? What about headaches? Does your period just start, or do you have days of spotting beforehand?

These are some of the things we ask about in clinic for someone who has or has had periods. It tells us a lot about what we need to do with our needles.

All of the things on the pictures have been said to me in clinic during conversations about periods. And whilst some of them are quite common, it does not make them normal.

Acupuncture is usually very effective for period problems and usually starts to take effect in that first cycle. You do not have to be trying to conceive to get help with your cycle, it is about better quality of life if you are suffering from debilitating symptoms each month. Get in touch to find out more, link to my website in bio or contact reception on 01924 369077.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

As we enter into the weekend I just want to share this lovely photo of Helen's graduation last weekend. Three years of hard work rewarded with a lovely day spent celebrating with her cohort and family. Well Done Helen and it has been fabulous to start working with you this month. I feel very blessed to have found someone I can entrust with my patients. Have a fab weekend everyone. 😊

Taking time outside in nature when you can is so important for health and wellbeing. At this time of year it can be a challenge, and so when the rain has stopped and the sun is out it is important to take the opportunity to head out and enjoy it if you can. Whether that be before work, during a break, or at the end of the day. This photo was taken today as I took some time outside on my day off.

Light is the most powerful cue for our circadian system. Exposure to light during the day helps keep your internal clock aligned, while darkness signals the body to prepare for sleep by producing melatonin. So getting outside in the light also helps to promote good sleep.

So at this time of year it is still important to get outside and enjoy the light when you can. Just remember to wrap up warm. And put those scarves and fluffy socks on to keep the cold out. Your Acupuncturist will be happy with you if you do! Thanks, Catherine 😊

When you book in an initial appointment with us, you may have a few questions about what will happen. So this little post shows you in pictures what to expect.

First step is to find us, which is easy because we send you a link for Google maps. Or maybe you have been to the clinic before and so already know your way. If you arrive by car there is parking nearby. (Check the signs for charging times.)

Once you have arrived, the lovely reception team will have some forms for you to fill in, so arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for that prior to your appointment.

At your appointment time your practitioner will arrive down the stairs to welcome you and show you the way to the Acupuncture room. Catherine has been working at the Osteopaths since 2021 and Helen has joined recently to offer more appointment times as the demand for Acupuncture grows.

Expect lots of questions about what you have come for and also things about your general health. We will ask to feel your pulses on both arms and have a look at your tongue! Don't worry it is all part of our diagnosis and helps us to give you the best treatment. We will also ask if you have any questions for us before we get you on the couch.

Once you have removed your shoes and socks and got comfy, we will talk you through what we are doing and put some of our amazing needles in points that have been individually tailored for you. Then you get to have a relaxing rest on the couch whilst the needles work their magic.

Then out come the needles and you are free to move and put your footwear back on. We will take payment (card or cash are accepted) and then discuss what we advise as next steps.

If you want to start working with us please get in touch to discuss further. Reception can be contacted on 01924 369077 or you can visit Heathcote Acupuncture website, link in bio. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Thanks, Catherine and Helen. 😊

We have been busy behind the scenes this week, starting to set up and getting ready to move to an online booking system. This will help us to streamline our booking process and make it quicker and easier for you to book in with us.

Don't panic if you don't feel confident doing this. We can sort it for you, and you can still book follow-up appointments at the end of your appointments with us as usual.

Thanks, Catherine. 😊

I get asked this question on a regular basis in clinic and my answer is at least 3 months because it takes about three months for diet and lifestyle changes to impact fertility. This is because it is the approximate time it takes for an egg to fully mature before ovulation, and for s***m to develop.

During this crucial 90-day period, eggs are developing and are highly sensitive to factors like nutrition, while s***m are continuously developing and being produced. Positive changes made today will support the health of the eggs and s***m that will be available in three months.

If you are taking any form of hormonal contraception, you will need to come off it and give your body time to return to its natural rhythm first, this can take longer than 3 months.

This is also a good time to start Acupuncture. Research has shown it to be beneficial when trying to conceive. Acupuncture helps to improves blood flow to reproductive organs, balances hormones, and reduces stress. It can increase blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, which helps with follicle development and the endometrial lining. Acupuncture also influences hormone levels that regulate the menstrual cycle and can positively affect male fertility by improving s***m production. Additionally, its stress-reducing effects can be beneficial, particularly during treatments like IVF.

So if you are thinking about trying to conceive in 2026 or you have been trying for a while with no success then get in touch to find out more. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks, Catherine. 😊

Did you know that some people come for Acupuncture when they feel well? A good half of my diary is full with people who come for regular treatment to help them continue to feel well or to help keep a condition easier for them. They often report feeling ready to come a few days before their appointment and many of them notice they either don't catch as many bugs, or they shake them off relatively quickly. Acupuncture works on a cumulative basis and so these regular treatments can build up and give great benefits. So you don't have to wait until things get really bad to come and see us, you are welcome with a ni**le or because you want to invest in your future health.

Thanks, Catherine. 😊

I have been meaning to post this for a while now, and a couple of patients this week reminded me that this post is definitely needed.

There is no need to apologise about turning up to treatment without your legs shaved or your toe nails done. I am busy concentrating on your health and wellbeing, not checking out if you have done either of these!

And there is no such thing as TMI in an Acupuncture clinic room. We want to know anything that is relevant to your health, and this includes how you feel. So if you get upset I have tissues and a listening ear.

As for catching some 💤 whilst the needles are in, you won't be the first or the last. Some people are asleep as soon as the needles are in. If you feel your eyes closing, your body clearly needs the rest, so just go with it.

Finally, if your tummy starts making noises once the needles are in, it is usually a good sign that you are in "rest and digest" mode. It's a great thing from my point of view, so music to my ears.

So please don't feel like you need to make these apologies, come as you are and you will be made very welcome.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

It was lovely to get to catch up with Helen in clinic today. I work the morning shift on a Tuesday, and she takes over from 1pm until 6pm (same on a Friday). So we will be getting regular time to catch up and discuss anything we need to discuss too.

It is so lovely to have another Acupuncturist working with me and especially someone who is so kind and caring. I always wanted to work in a busy practise with others and so moving to Wakefield Osteopaths in May 2022 was an easy decision. And now to have Helen, it is the icing on the cake.

If you are interested in working with us, get in touch via my website contact form, link in bio. Or ring the fabulous reception team on 01924 369077 and leave a message for me to get back to you.

Thanks, Catherine 😊
