Everyone stay safe whilst travelling out and about in this weather💚❄️
Thank you to the team at Wakefield Council for their hard work in making it as safe as possible!🙌
⚠️ The Met Office has issued a YELLOW warning for SNOW as Storm Goretti approaches Wakefield.
Our gritting team has been working 24/7 over the last week and throughout Christmas. When they’re not out in the gritters, they’ve been refilling grit bins across the district.
Now Storm Gorretti is predicted to head our way, the team are keeping an eye on the forecast using our local weather stations. If it rains, the grit the will be washed away. So, they will head out when it is the perfect conditions to grit, which is before the road temperature reaches below zero.
If we get snow and it becomes continuous or heavy, the team will plough the routes which takes longer. In extreme situations, the team will give priority to the main roads only and once finished will move onto other priority routes.
Please remember, conditions are unpredictable and the team do their best to keep us all moving. Grit cannot guarantee completely ice-free roads. We have seen black ice as well as frost, so extra caution is needed.
Please remember to take care when travelling. Stay safe and take extra care on the roads!
