Stress causes a rise in cortisol (stress hormone) in our bodies; this is great if we need to run away from a tiger, but not if we need to focus & get things done.

Prolonged stress & trying to push through can mean we ignore our basic needs. Do you often crave sugary food or find yourself eating fast food so you can rush back to what you're doing- and then feel rubbish later? Does it send your sleep haywire as you run around like a headless chicken?

If this is you, stop for a minute (no, really, its ok!); take your shoes off. Feeling your feet on the ground can be a powerful way to reset!πŸ™‚πŸŒ³

Rounding off stress awareness month with some tips to stay well and beat stress

1) Eat well- food & mood are linked- you are what you eat! think nourishing foods and plenty of fruit & veg, also eating at regular times

2)sleep well; sleep helps revitalise & tidy our brains - like a clean up team popping in over night. think regular sleep-wake times, comfortable bed, temperature, as quiet & dark as possible and NOT using your phone in bed!

3) breathe! vital action, but think nice full breaths, not short shallow ones from your chest

4) Move- moving is great for your body and mind, it releases endorphins and diverts your attention

5) get outside! as above, but even just sitting and observing nature counts as it helps reset your nervous system, so you find calm

6) hydrate- water is the source of life, it lubricates your joints and helps transport good things and remove nasties from our bodies

7) learn to say no- boundaries are important, they help protect us & prevent overwhelm & burnout

8) master your time; this takes practice, but if it takes less than 2 mins, just do it! if it takes longer block time out for it and if its hard either do it 1st while you have energy or do something easy first to get you started

9) Most importantly look after yourself and your team! At Roots OT we do team wellbeing packages to provide your team with some calm and lots of fun! We run events from our HQ in south hiendley or we can come to you! contact us for details & info- see bio πŸ™‚πŸŒ³

Great 3rd session of Common Ground today; we considered our favourite places in nature and their meanings and completed a River of Life to identify things keeping us stuck and how we could move forward.

One participant said: "i feel invigorated and more at peace with myself"

If you are off sick/out or work/struggling navigating life challenges (relationship changes, menopause, illness, retirement, bereavement), and feel you have lost your confidence and identity, have a disrupted routine, and/or anxiety, a fear of being β€œbehind” or not coping well enough, this is for you!

This is not therapy, but a bridging space to help you reconnect with others, and rebuild rhythm and capacity in a way that feels safe and dignified.

There's a myth that growth requires pushing through fear, but if your nervous system is already overloaded, pushing harder adds more stress.

Before we stretch, we need to be grounded; your nervous system often settles when you step away from screens and artificial noise, supporting calm and clearer thinking. Nature provides the perfect place for this; meeting you gently where you are, without expectations.

My sessions focus on grounding, gently settling into yourself & your surroundings to promote feelings of safety. Resetting your nervous system doesn't happen quickly, being in nature helps you get it right & I work with you to find the right ways for you to make lasting changes to changes to your life. πŸ™‚πŸŒ³

Why the Tree of Life? 🌳

Because your story matters.

Your roots β€” where you’ve come from
Your trunk β€” who you are now
Your branches β€” where you’re going

This process helps you see yourself more clearly, with compassion rather than judgement.

It’s not about changing who you are.
It’s about understanding and reconnecting.

Excited to share Common Ground every thursday from Roots OT HQ!

A supportive outdoor group for people navigating absence, transition, or return to work

This group is suitable for individuals who may be:

-Out of work and feeling isolated or disconnected

Great second session of Common Ground today

We completed some mindful invitations to encourage us to slow down and tune into our senses and notice the beauty around us, walked mindfully and made damper bread with jam to nourish us.
