YAS CFR The official page of Yorkshire Ambulance Service Community First Responder Scheme

21/11/2025

Community First Responders (CFRs) are volunteers who are trained to provide life-saving treatment to patients in the vital first few minutes of an emergency until our ambulance crew arrives.

When a 999 call is received in our Emergency Operations Centre, an ambulance response is dispatched. At the same time, a CFR on-call in the area can be alerted and asked to attend the incident to ensure that help reaches the patient as quickly as possible.

Why not come and join Josh?

Community First Responders (CFRs) are vital to their community, especially in rural areas.

CFR Josh was first on scene and was able to provide immediate care and complete checks on patient Muriel, before handing over to crew Barney and Chloe.

If you are planning to host your own event, please ensure you follow the necessary safety precautions.

If fireworks are used properly, accidents are avoidable but if they are used incorrectly, they can result in serious injuries.

In the event of an accident with fireworks or a bonfire, it is important to act quickly and follow the NHS advice for treating burns and scalds.

For minor injuries, visit NHS 111 online at 111.nhs.uk or go to a minor injuries unit. For serious injuries, seek urgent medical help by calling 999.

Cardiac arrest survivor, Steve, has raised money to have a defibrillator commissioned in his local community! ๐Ÿ‘

After suffering a cardiac arrest in 2023, Steve pledged to support the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity to help fund six public defibrillators in Marsden.

He recently completed a 25-mile sponsored cycle from Leeds to Marsden in aid of his goal of raising ยฃ11,50 to fund these life-saving devices.

Defibrillators give a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest to restore the heartโ€™s normal rhythm. Combined with CPR, defibrillators give cardiac arrest patients the best possible chance of survival.
