Announcement – Peter ‘Pete’ Robert Greenfield RIP.

Diane would like to personally thank everyone for attending the funeral service and for helping to give Pete the send-off he deserved. I know he was loved by many and he will be truly missed by all. The family have tallied all the donations that were made by people in attendance of the service and a total of £560.00 has been raised for Yorkshire Cancer Research which will go towards funding researchers and cancer experts who pioneer early diagnosis and discover new and better treatments for people with cancer. What an amazing effort and a fantastic cause! Thank you to everyone who donated.

Given that last year’s event was so successful we are pleased to invite you again to join us for our annual remembrance service at The Church of St James the Great, Ryhill to dedicate and light a candle in memory of a lost loved one on Sunday 7th December 2025 at 6.00pm led by The Revd Canon Paul Cartwright our Parish Priest.

The service will celebrate the lives of the special people that we have lost and is open to anyone regardless of where and when the bereavement occurred. You are encouraged and welcome to attend this service even if you wouldn't necessarily attend church.

The service will include some religious readings and gentle music, and you will have the opportunity to light a memorial candle in memory of your loved ones. Free refreshments will be available after the service.

We have agreed to donate the cost of the candles for this service but we ask that people in attendance make a charitable donation to support St James the Great, Ryhill for its upkeep and to support its ongoing work within our great community.
We understand that times are tight at the moment, especially on the lead up to Christmas. We ask people to donate as much as they can afford to the church plate.

Should you wish to dedicate a memorial candle to a loved one you will have the opportunity to write the name of your loved one on the candle at church and light it during the remembrance service. There will be a cost of £5.00 per candle and all proceeds will be donated to church. You will be welcome to take the candle away with you after the service for safekeeping should you wish.
We look forward to seeing you there.

With funeral standards in the news again this week, we wanted to provide reassurance about our services.

Our staff and premises adhere to national trade association SAIF's code of practice on standards. This means we will always care for families and their loved ones with the utmost respect and professionalism. Processes within our mortuary and ashes storage are all fully documented to provide a robust audit trail.

Additionally, we are assessed and approved by SAIF inspectors to show how our premises operate. The assessment includes sensitive tours of our storage areas to show how we meet our code of practice requirements. We have also been informally inspected by Wakefield Council's Environmental Health department as part of a national initiative to ensure we are fulfilling our obligations in providing care and dignity to those who are in our care.

We are proud to serve our community.

Please can I remind people not to make comments on this post that may place us in contempt of court to the current legal proceedings taking place against the 'Funeral Director' in national news.
