It has certainly been a week of Training at OT4Life Today came with a little twist.

We spend a lot of time making sure staff are confident with falls prevention and know the early signs to look out for. But we also believe our residents and service users should feel empowered to manage their own Mobility. Knowledge is power, even more so when you are trying to stay steady on your feet.

Today we delivered one of our resident friendly falls talks. These sessions are designed to spark conversation, build confidence and keep people happy healthy and independent in their homes and care settings.

We also ran one of our walking MOT sessions. Every walking aid in the building had a full spot check and we swapped out all the tired worn down ferruls for fresh new ones. Small changes like this make a massive difference to stability and safety.

A good chat a few laughs and safer walking for everyone. Not a bad day at all. More of this to come as we keep pushing falls prevention forward across our local communities.

Excellent day delivering 2 training packages we have available. first off was my friends at 🤝🏼 SAM Networking and Marketing 🤝🏼 where we shared some laughs and delivering the message regarding falls prevention

Secondly, was the excellent team at Radfield Home Care Limited Leeds & Ilkley we were invited up and completed a staff specific Falls prevention training session looking at factors around falling the consequences of a fall and of course how other Occupational Therapist at OT4Life can support people experiencing frequent faults and prevent further incidents in the future

Both absolutely excellent talks with great feedback. I’ve gotten quite used to doing these now and now the nerves are under control. They’re getting quite fun! onto our next one of the week this afternoon in another local Care facility who have requested the training for both their staff and their residents. more photos to follow 👀👀

We’ve been keeping a little secret…

Some eagle eyed visitors to our website may already have spotted it, but we can now officially share the news that OT4Life has won the Yorkshire Prestige Award for Occupational Therapy Service of the Year!

This is our first ever award and it means the world to us. What started as a small dream to make a difference has grown into an award winning service built on compassion, trust and hard work.

Unknown to us, we were nominated by one of our own patients — a gesture that alone feels like a win. From there, OT4Life was shortlisted alongside other local healthcare providers, and after review by the judging panel, we were chosen as the regional winner in the healthcare sector thanks to the incredible testimonials and feedback from our amazing clients and partners.

We’ll be collecting the award in December, and there will definitely be a few proud smiles that day. None of this would have been possible without everyone who’s supported OT4Life from the very beginning — our clients, care homes, colleagues, friends, family and our incredible team who’ve stood behind the dream from day one.

I’ve followed this dream, you’d think it was a nightmare the way it screamed at me. Every challenge, late night and setback has been part of building something real — something bigger than myself. OT4Life began as an idea that no one should be left to succumb to their fate after illness or injury, and that everyone deserves dignity and respect. Seeing that idea recognised makes every bit of it worthwhile.

Small steps really do lead to big success.
Thank you for helping make OT4Life what it is today — a service built from heart, purpose and the belief that with the right support, everyone can maximise the ability in disability.

❤️ Thank you and love to you all x

✨Today We Made Dreams Come True at OT4Life ✨

A couple of weeks ago we received a call that really stuck with us. Piet the lovely gentleman in his finery, desperately wanted to attend his son’s wedding but his health meant he could not manage in a normal chair or wheelchair. It broke my heart to think he might miss one of the biggest moments of his life.

Working together with the amazing teams at Paradox Ambulance Services and Castleford Lodge Care Home, we set out to make nearly impossible happen. With help from Independence Mobility, we managed to find a specialist care chair at very short notice usually taking weeks but mere days and had it delivered straight to the wedding venue ready for the big day.

This afternoon, along with paradox medical services Aaron had the absolute honour of being there with him to make sure he was comfortable and supporting his amazing care team at castleford lodge throughout the ceremony and for photos .
Aaron said “Being there knowing he got to see his son say “I do” in person was one of those moments in my career so far and one that will stay with me forever”.

To us at OT4life, This is what occupational therapy is all about. It is about people, about purpose, and about doing whatever it takes to bring a bit of light into someone’s world.

At OT4Life we do not just help people with equipment and assessments. We help make memories. We help people take part in the moments that matter most.

Because independence is not just about what you can do on your own. It is about living life your way

If you are any loved ones know anyone in this similar position for whatever reason struggling to do something that matters daily to them don’t hesitate to reach out we will make it happen together

🎃 Spooky season success story! 👻

This lovely young lady has defied all odds and stood for the first time since her admission to hospital in February! 🧡 Hats off to her and keep up the good work. It goes to show you don’t need to be a witch or wizard to make magic happen. with hard work, determination, (and a little therapy magic), incredible things can be achieved and dreams can come true.

Here’s to more treats than tricks this Halloween and to standing tall against the odds! 🕷️🦇

✨ Client review time-
9 months in bed… until now ✨

One of our clients in a care home hadn’t been out of bed for over 9 months. His mobility had deteriorated unable to walk any longer. Every time staff tried to move him, the chair just wasn’t right, and he was left uncomfortable and unsafe. His world had shrunk down to his bed.

9 months later When we got involved, we reviewed his equipment, trialled a new comfort recliner sling from Simply Moving and Sleeping, and made sure the sling was the right size and fitted properly. The first time he was hoisted into the sourced care chair, you could see the relief on his face, he was supported, comfortable, and safe. For the first time in months, he could sit up, smile, and be part of the world around him again.

His daughter told us:

“Thanks to Aaron, Dad has gone from being bedbound to now spending time in a chair, socialising with other residents. The change has been nothing short of remarkable. Visits that were once difficult and upsetting have become joyful, hopeful moments for our entire family. To put it simply Aaron has been a lifesaver, in an underwhelming and under resourced world of adult social care, he has been a shining light”

And this is exactly why we do what we do. The right equipment, the right techniques and the right support can completely change someone’s quality of life.

Huge thanks to simply moving and sleeping for thier amazing support in sourcing the right sling

If you have residents who’ve been bedbound, it doesn’t have to stay that way. With the right input, they can get back into a chair and back into life.

From Stuck in a Chair in a Care Home to Making Pan-Fried Salmon & Veg at Home A Six Week Transformation Story

This has been one of the biggest rehab projects OT4Life has taken on to date and what a turnaround it’s been.

A lovely lady in her 90s, always fiercely independent, ended up in hospital after an infection. From there, she was moved into a care home the plan was for her to “see out her days” there.

Her family and she herself were not ready to accept that.

They contacted me asking for urgent help, and put their full trust in me to make it happen. I brought in my partner-in-crime, my brilliant OTA Catherine Griffin, and we got straight to work.

For the first couple of weeks, between the two of us, we visited almost daily, including weekends, providing intensive mobility and transfers rehab. This then progressed into functional transfers, toileting independently, dressing/undressing without help, and building her walking confidence.

I carried out a full environmental analysis of her home to identify potential risks and barriers. From there, we recommended and arranged the right equipment tailored to her needs to maximise safety, independence, and energy conservation once she returned.

Within three weeks of starting, she was ready for the next step of going home. A huge milestone for her, and a real turning point in the project.

Once home, we continued with structured follow-up support. The focus was on keeping her at home. O this we focused on consolidating her skills, maintaining safe mobility, and gradually increasing the complexity of her daily activities. This approach not only kept her safe it allowed her to flourish.

Yesterday, at what became our final rehab session, she proudly cooked a pan-fried salmon with vegetables, completely independently. It looked (and smelled) incredible.

It just proves life doesn’t have to stop at 90. With the right input, it can be the start of a whole second wind and a brand new chapter.

I now have capacity for one more intensive rehab client if you, or someone you know, is ready for a transformation like this, get in touch.
