In today's modern day society of high-stress living and poor quality foods, many people suffer from gastrointestinal challenges - from reflux and burping to bloating, TO constipation & diarhorrea. Not all of them are just stress-based or food-related.
If you spot any of these GI symptoms, which don't seem to improve after dietary changes and supplementation, the reason might be a parasite, bacteria or fungal infection. That is why, we advise to use appropriate tests, especially if you have a history of travel, often eat out or have pets.

In our many years of experience, we have seen countless cases where symptoms are present in the patient but after testing the results would come back negative for pathogens. That is why, we cater for such difficult cases with our tests too. In such instances, we advise that patients collect 4 specimens over the course of 8 days, putting 2 specimens in each vial, or sampling when the patient is most symptomatic. This reduces the chance of missing a cyclic parasite greatly.
The other factor, determining the accuracy and success of the test relates to the processing and staining of specimens. Here, at PCI, we use a stain from Alpha Tec, Vancouver, Canada called CONSED which is far superior than the Trichrome stain that most labs use.
We are also proud to share with you that we have a track record of detecting and identifying 50-80% more species and individuals of intestinal parasites in faecal specimens in comparison to other standard lab tests.

As we have shared with you last week, one of the most acute ways to test for pathogens is via a microscopic examination. There are, however, certain factors that need to be present in order to have an accurate result.
Firstly, the technicians analysing the slides – they are by far the most important variable when comparing labs. We pride ourselves on having the experience and expertise of Dr. Amin (PhD Parasitologist) and his well-trained team.
The other important success factor relates to the proper collection and transport of specimens. Here at PCI, we use the best transport system available on the market and we give patients detailed instructions on how to best collect their sample.

Time for a topic 🦠💊
The symbiotic organisms that live in and on the body are constantly at war with invasive organisms, protecting their environment - on and in us. However, they are drastically affected with the use of antibiotics in the form of medications but also from man-made hygiene products.
This is the case because antibiotic use kills all bacteria good or bad, leaving no competition for fungi, yeasts, and other parasitic organisms. To overcome the consequences of antibiotic use, we recommend Saccharomyces boulardii and a subsequent recolonization with probiotics.
If you are undergoing or have undergone an antibiotic treatment recently, it might be worth talking to a practitioner who can assess your current levels of gut health and advise you accordingly.

With the rapid growth of the holistic health industry in recent years, many practitioners have started to use biofeedback machines as a diagnostic tool with their clients. This machine measures the energy response of a patient to a particular stimulus that may originate from a parasite source.
Its benefit comes from the fact that it can give an indication that there may be an infection present but it is still not considered an accurate diagnostic test. It is merely an indicator of the possible future direction that the practitioner may decide to take with the client. Since this type of machine relates to frequency measuring, it should also be noted that only frequencies for certain groups of parasites are available to this date.

Continuing with the explanations regarding parasite/pathogen testing, the next type of tests looks at a group of parasites and uses either blood or saliva to check the presence of antibodies of certain pathogens, grouped together in a general panel. Subsequent testing for an individual organism within that panel may prove the presence of specific antibodies and incriminates a specific parasite within that panel.
It is a very definite test – if the body is producing antibodies for a particular pathogen, it is unmistakable. Saliva is also convenient and noninvasive.
The draw back here is that it only tests for specific parasites. For accurate results you need follow up tests one week apart (initial and 2 follow-ups). If antibodies go up then you are presently producing antibodies, indicating an active case. If not, it is an old infection and not active.
This type of testing also has a large margin of error – antigens do not readily circulate in the saliva as they do in the blood.

There are different types of parasite tests and we often get practitioners and their patients asking us which one to choose. That is why, in our next few posts, we are going to look into the different types of parasite tests, so you as practitioners or patients can have a good understanding of that.
DNA/PCR testing has become popular in recent years as it identifies the genome of the organism. It involves blood and f***l specimens for an imprint of the DNA of a parasite. The benefit of this type of testing is that it is very definite – if it is there, there is no mistaking it.
The DNA sequence, however, is only known for the most common parasites, such as Amoeba, Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Very often reports will come back as ‘taxonomy unidentifiable or unavailable’. That means the sequence looks like a parasite but they can’t identify what it is.
Being a DNA imprint, there is no way to tell if it is a past or present infection, just that it was there for some time. It could be an infection from 20 years ago.

Due to the wide variety of intestinal parasites, a description of the symptoms rarely is sufficient for diagnosis. Instead, different laboratory tests are used to identify pathogenic infestations:
• Stool samples may be collected to search for the parasites and an adhesive tape may be applied to search for eggs.
• Swab cultures are taken for culturing and analysis of bacterial and fungal infections.
• Urine tests are used to evaluate the presence of protozoan, worm, fungus and bacteria
• Blood smear test is used for individuals with history if been bitten by bloodsucking insects – mosquitos, ticks, lice
• Additional investigative lab test – parasite ID and water analysis
That is another reason to work with an experienced practitioner so they can assess your health history and symptoms and choose the right test. If you need any guidance here, get in touch. http://parasitetesting.co.uk/

Parasites have been around for years and our immune system has evolved thanks to them. However, in recent years, our bodies are struggling to overcome their encounters with parasites, resulting in many people, suffering from parasite infections.
If you haven’t done our free questionnaire to check if you might have such an infection, below is a list if symptoms, indicating the need to utilise parasite tests:
• Travel history
• Ingestion events where you have eaten something and have experienced issues afterwards
• Rash and roseacea and other skin changes
• Bowel movements issues & bloating
• Unexplained emotional changes/mood swings
• Cyclic or changeable symptom pattern

Do you know that experiencing frequent bowel changes (from constipation to diarrhoea) could be a sign of a parasite/fungal or bacterial infection? Oftentimes it is a combination of two or all three pathogen types.
If you then suspect that you might have a parasite it is best to work with an experienced health practitioner who can run the right tests for you and recommend appropriate treatment and diet regimes. The right practitioner can also give you a parasite & bowel diary, which would track your bowel characteristics, such as colour, texture, smell, shape, mucus and food particles, along with symptoms, such as skin changes, emotions, sleep quality, abdominal bloating and much more.

Have you done our online questionnaire to check whether you may have any pathogenic overgrowths (parasites, fungus, bacteria)? If you are, for example, experiencing tiredness, digestion issues, difficulties losing weight or niggling stomach problems that never seem to go away, parasites or fungi could be the culprit, and then testing would be the safest option to check that.
You can check whether you would be better off with testing by doing the FREE questionnaire on our website here: https://www.parasitetesting.co.uk/

Parasitology Testing Europe Ltd based in Wakefield, UK is the European distributor for the Parasitology Centre, Inc. (PCI) in Scottsdale, Arizona. PCI Europe was founded by Emma Lane, who has worked extensively over the last 10 years with human parasite, fungal and bacteria infections. PCI Europe enables those living in Europe to utilise the worlds most advanced, consistent and well researched laboratory, the PCI, Arizona, led by world renowned parasitologist, Dr Omar Amin, for the detection and treatment of parasitic infections.
Parasitology Center, Inc. (PCI) in Scottsdale, Arizona is a research facility of parasites of the intestinal tract and organ systems including the skin. Due to the spillover of infectious agents and parasites from wildlife and parasites in dogs and other domestic animals into human populations by a wide variety of environmental exposures, PCI has the expertise in all these biological systems. This is because of Dr Amin’s broad zoological experience and research history in Africa, the middle East, Asia, and the Americas.
Established in 1994, PCI is a facility that has excellent national and international reputation as one of the best, if not the best, parasitology laboratory in the country. We work with hundreds of professionals, many of whom are alternative health practitioners, in all seven continents.
The common belief is that parasites occur only in less developed countries, where poverty and unclean living are more commonplace. The presence of parasites is not confined to these conditions and, despite the popular misconception, those living in the developed world are also at risk.
Most parasites in humans are cosmopolitan. The most common symptoms include:
You should also consider testing if you eat out frequently, have been exposed to feaces through sexual contact, are a food handler or are regularly in large groups e.g. a dormitory resident, have childern who go to nursery or are a member of the armed forces.
