Investing in the future. VR Headset Visual Field Analysis. Today we had the opportunity to trial a new concept in visual field analysis.
To our surprise the new equipment was lightweight, portable and very user friendly, but most of all it was very accurate.
To Fizzs surprise he thought he was going to play some virtual reality games, but the rep told him unfortunately there is a block on game installation 🤣😂

This patient attended for a routine contact lens examination, not knowning he had some dangerous damage taking place at the back of the one of his eyes.

For years we had been advising him to take better care of his health (diabetes) and to book regular annual eye tests - due to his busy lifestyle he would often fail on both requests.

Our Optometrist noticed during the contact lens examination that something was not quite right.

He made a quick decision to inform the next patient that he will running behind and then proceeded to dilate this patients eyes and investigate further, revealing the picture above....Diabetic Retinal Fibrosis

Diabetic Retinal Fibrosis is a severe, late-stage complication of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) where chronic high blood sugar causes abnormal vessel growth (neovascularization) to turn into scar tissue. This fibrous tissue pulls on the retina, causing tractional retinal detachment, significant vision loss, or blindness.

Hopefully due to our quick thinking and quick reaction we have saved this patient from further vision loss.

For those who want to know which part of the eye this is....

These are the outline (boundary) of the pupil. The “inner circle” of the iris. The black in the image above is the pupil. The “fingers and hair” are part of the iris.

You’re welcome! 😊

At 1000× magnification, the human eye stops looking smooth and familiar.
What appears soft and invisible at normal scale becomes a landscape of ridges, folds, and translucent structures.
These pink, finger-like forms are part of the eye’s microscopic anatomy, normally hidden beneath eyelashes and skin.
Up close, the eye looks less like a lens and more like living tissue shaped by constant motion and moisture.
This extreme zoom reveals how complex and biological vision truly is, far beyond what we ever notice.

Safe to say he hasn't changed!
At least you know Fizz will explain everything about your eyes before you leave, after you have caught up with what going on in the world 😜
